Clinton was a smart man, both bushes are idots. Their Foreign policy is lacking, havent done anything that wasn't proven to be benfical to the US.
Clinton didn't have to invade anyone because the ecomony was doing well when he was in office, bush went to war to create "jobs" etc. to bring the economy out of the recession.
What was clinton to do? Just Go invade any country he felt like invading? As its happening now and where will it stop? Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, North korea, Palestine?
What country should clinton have invaded becuase:
the USS Cole was bombed
What country should clinton have invaded becuase:
African Embassies were bombed
What country should clinton have invaded becuase:
Khobar Towers were bombed
What country should clinton have invaded becuase:
the WTC was bombed the first time
Lets bring up Rwanda and Sudan. The US continues to avoid intervening in violent humanitarian crises. In Iraq the people had to be liberated from a cruel dictator becuase he was doing the unthinkable to the people there. But its happening in Sudan and Rawands people are dying by the millions, but no one cares!
I never go the connection between Iraq and 9/11..im and still wating on a good answer |
Good point. The US would never interfere with any country if there wasn't any economical benefit from it. Every superpower in the world has a much bigger reason to go to war if they have something to gain other than just helping liberate oppressed people. Other countries have no choice but to ask the US for help when in times of crisis. Knowing that, the US reaps the rewards in some way from the smaller countries. "Hey, we help you, you help us.." ("actually we own you")
I can only imagine would the US would pull out of thier hat if Iraq never invaded kuwait.
my 2 cents. |

Individuals like you believe that you are so intelligent and thoughtful that you, and you alone, posses the ability to see through the myth of American freedom. And since you posses this unique ability to see the world as it truly is I must be either stupid or too propagandized to honestly disagree with you.
Agree with you and i am an enlightened person, disagree and i am nothing more than an unfortunate fool who has been brainwashed. Stop reading Chomsky, Zinn and Blum books and other entertaining and enlightening glimpses into the minds of the deranged. |
listen buddy, it's straight and simple. bush went to war in iraq for for none fot the reasons. it is a joke that you state chemical and biological reasons today, june 9 2006 as the reason. it was a joke when he first used to say it. that is my point. i simply cannot believe you would say this. if you don't see what i'm getting at, you never will. but this is my point, straight and simple!!!! |

Because we started a war on terrorism....and we felt that Saddam having chemical or biological weapons was a threat of terror. He had been known to use them in the past against the Kurds and Iranians. He refused to unarm and follow UN regulations for years so after 9.11 Bush gave him the choice of either allowing the UN to do their job or face "shock and awe". Then we found him in a hole like a coward. |
But you argument is lacking. I still dont understand why other countires are not allowed to have WMD and only a select few are. You stated above that Iraq has used WMD against Iran, but now why is the US going after Iran? Weren't the US trying to protect Iran by taking down saddam?
Now look at India. India went on with their nuclear testing in the late 90s. America put sanctions on them. But earlier this year Bush went to India and said there will be no more sancations etc. He said its fine to have a nuclear program. Out of the 28 power plants in India he said only 17 had to be checked by the UN, the other 11 would not be looked into by the UN or anyone since they will be used for military purposes.
We all know that Bush did this since India is going to be player in global affairs and US needs an ally against China. So, the US can have a blind eye towards certain countires when it benefits them
So, why cant other countires follow the same path as India? Defy the US and later on no one will question you about your nuclear weapons.
Also, Why can't no country in the middle east be allowed to have nucleaer weapons excpet israel? Since the US gave them weapons who knows when they will go nuts and kill people in Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, and cant forget Palestine. |

Oh wow. He took it there  :p
I honestly don't have too much problem with the US asserting itself. The US has done lots of grimey stuff over the past hundred years with regards to foreign policy but I definately understand that the US raping the world of its resources and such is what allows us to live the way we do and enjoy the things we do here in the States. All governments are self interested and self propogating. If the US would like to keep itself on top I have no problem with it.
What I do have a problem with is being FAKE about it. The US Government isn't all sunshine, peaches and cream. There's lots of nasty that it does for the betterment of itself. Know that and support it, or know that and challenge it, but don't go around being an ignorant flag waver thinking that the US Govt is some saint-like entity that's all about the good of humanity, defending truth and justice, protecting the innocent around the world, saving the whales, and rescuing poor little kittens stuck on tree branches.
Sometimes we're about humanity, most of the time there's another motive. What was that about 'Operation Iraqui Freedom'? We damn sure didn't care about the inhumane treatment of Iraqi citizens for the past 10 years so why now? Oh, that's right, we don't care about the fact that there's over $300 trillion in oil reserves in Iraq ... no, no. We care about the good of man kind. Aww, aren't we precious.
I agree with knowing how your country works and supporting it or knowing how your country works and not supporting it way before I'll agree with supporting your country and not knowing what it's all about. I'm definately not for supporting a fairy tale. |

I could agree with you here, and your right at some points.
Kill two birds with one rock, and thats what we are trying to do. Its not all economic reasons though, there are political reasons involved, because if we went there for economic reasons, then we did a terrible job knowing that we are in dept, so I dont agree with the fact that we are there only because we care about oil. Bush might not be the best president that we have had, but he isnt a crazy man.
I must say, alot of people have brought up great arguments here.
Brooks, its hard to argue in a New York forum when there are so many liberals here. I agree with you as well man, I always do in most cases! :D |

My only thought why alot of countries cannot have WMD i because they will undoubtedly use it to destroy other countries.
I figure if Iran is allowed to have WMD, then chances are they will bully Israel and any non islamic neighbor. No one wants that.. Israel or india is allowed to have them probably because thay really have no radical reason to bomb anyone in that type of destructive nature. On the other hand, Iran already stated Israel should be wiped off the Map. Some world leaders really do want to destroy thier neigbors you know...
That's still not an excuse for the US to have them but in reality the US will never use nuclear weapons against a country unless we are attacked by the same nuclear weapon. Iran MAY possibly start a nuclear war from what thier president has stated in regards to Israel. Should they really have it .. No.... Should we? Of course not.. But until all the nations in this world find a common ground for keeping peace, then i doubt nuclear weapons will dissapear.
2 cents. |

Seriously, we should get our own country. It's obvious that the differences are huge anymore. You guys can have all the land and the farms, we'll take all the business and the money.
It's funny, because I thought Republicans were for big business, yet all of the areas where the money is are full of Democrats.
My roommate is a Republican (gay, too), and he hates what the hell is going on lately. He wants to know why his party became the party of Christianity and why they stopped being the party of fiscal responsibility and the other values that he supported them for. |

Funny you say that, because I think the same thing. I am for big corporations and capitalism, support the rich blah blah blah..but I guess we still get called rednecks, when in fact rednecks are the poorest people in America, but whatever, I dont understand it either. |

But you made a deal with the devil by enlisting the support of the religious people to get the majority. Now, they're the ones ing your party like a dirty hooker and making you all look bad.
Rednecks are poor, but they're also stupid and easily manipulated by religion because they're dumb and uneducated. You wanted their numbers, but now we've all got to deal with their stupid beliefs infecting our government for you to keep their support. |
