WOOHOO! i haven't been on here in ages.. but its nice to see a thread that is about a sport I actually like...

btw - I think brazil's comeback in the second half was necessary! But both them and the french aren't playing like I thought they would... I wanna see brazil dance with the ball! And I must agree with the commentators that their defense is slacking in the middle tremendously... i think that game definitely could have gone either way.. australia definitely put in some good goal opportunities...

france vs. korea - i was a little bored... what was up with that goal they didn't call... france should have won, but I think the korean's were the better team for sure that game!

but, u know, it's not necessarily about national pride shamee..do i Have to support US just cuz i'm born here? :conf: what's wrong with rooting for ghana?

btw, i'm also rooting for germany after italy :p :toothless

No, I understand where you're coming from. But it just seems to me that no one cares about the US team, despite being born here. And US soccer will never take off like it should if that is the case.

And think of it this way, how many people born in Italy are rooting for Brazil or Spain before they cheer for the Italian team? Now... how many people born in America are more excited if Italy or England wins than if the United States does? That's my real point...

That's a great point. I can't tell you how many fights i get into with my friends who r born and raised in NJ but are flyer or ranger fans. I have no probelm with likin multiple teams but don't hate one of the only teams from your state. GO DEVS!!!!!
That said, I think a basic trait for many americans is that we as a culture like winners. That combined with the fact that we are one of the only countries where people form their identity through both the country they are living in and the country of their parents/grandparents etc... Its really hard to find a british or german citizen who does the hyphen thingy.

let's go dutch! (just for today)

Argentina vs. the Dutchies is a classic matchup. I'm distraught that I'm gonna miss this duel while I'm at work. I really like both teams, so it's gonna be hard for me. The deciding factor will be... which country has the hottest women. Well, Argentina is a powerhouse in that regards so I'm siding with them this time. However, I love Ruud so either way, it'll be fun.

On the plus side, at least Italy's up, so they're upholding their end of the deal to get us in.

I'm reading that the penalty that led to the converted PK was pretty questionable. Anyone see and can confirm/deny?
