Why are people getting the impression that the first red of the US was not deserved? As I've mentioned on a previous thread, Mastroeni did that tackle straight to the body, the ball was long gone. Not to mention he did it with both feet! That alone is a straight red card - you just do not do that. What's even more, refs are actually supposed to show a straight red if they do it with one foot now!

thats obviously not the only reason. It was a challenge that didnt warrant it #1, and #2 the fact it was so early obviously shows no intent to be recklessly challenging.
edit: he touched the ing ball man, it wasnt that late. |
