Right, the 2nd paragraph is exactly what I'm talking about. If the ref decides to give someone a 2nd yellow card they are effectively giving them a red card and sending them off the field. This is my point of contention. |
lol you've confused me. Two yellows equals a red card and you're off. Both fouls were bad and the ref had no other choice. |

my point, at first, was that he shouldn't have been given a 2nd yellow for a tackle that I've seen about 40 times so far this World Cup that have, at most, drawn a foul.
In looking at some of the replays, i can see how that tackle was dangerous and so I'll concede the red card on that one. The 2nd red, well, that was just ridiculous. |

| this isnt Demolition Man where a machine spits out a violation for every time you swear. The penalties go up exponentially and the ref knows that its not "just another yellow" |

No not really mate. That sort of attitude doesn't really cut the mustard for me. This is the best chance in over 40 years that we have of winning this, and all I see is it getting pissed down the drain by a wanker who doesn't know what he is doing. The sooner Sven s off the better. |

I see what you're saying but that's is just the rule of the game. The second foul wasn't bad enough for him to a get a straight red so he got a yellow which resulted in a red at the end (because he then had two yellows). A bit redundant but it has purpose. If he had been shown a straight red card on his second foul, his first yellow card carries to the next game and if he receives another yellow on that game, he is banned from the following game because of accumulation of yellow cards. But since he got the red through two yellows, the two yellows are annulled and he is clear after the next game ban.
Also, it shows the severity of the foul. Sometimes FIFA's DC may choose to apply multi-game bans on straight reds (usually they can't play the next game) like in the case of the first Italian red, I personally think the idiot should get banned for more than the next game.
In any case, I was rooting for the US, they showed more balls than the Italians. Italy's play was shameful. |

these dumb euros (refs and players) should have to play a NHL game to learn what a foul is.
Anybody see the final game thurs? it was a in war. hitting and scoring. a good game of hockey is the . |

2.games allowed to end in ties is bull. |
no it penalizes both teams and it's great that way. Group E of the world cup right now has like a zillion different mathematical scenarios, THANKS TO THE GAME THAT ENDED IN A TIE! it's great for nerds like me.
and you also happen not to know anything about football. aishifhaoifhiohdihfil :) |

i know enuff that the purpose of a game is to determine a winner and a loser. you trying to rationalize ending a game in a tie is pretty silly. think about it. if the last game of the world cup ended in a tie how stupid would that be? |

extra time. then penalty kicks.
knockout stages != group stages.
think about it. |

you just told me it makes sense to end in a tie. inconsistent logic. if you have to change the fundemental rules of how a game ends then something is wrong. look at any other sport. |
