Personally, I think this law is great, and I hope they enforce one here in Waterloo.
Perhaps none of you have experienced the joys of waking up at 6:30 on a Sunday morning to people ripping apart the street in front of your house, and until you do, I doubt you can empathize.
Trust me, it isn't fun, because it isn't just a 15 minute disturbance, it is an all day thing. So you are up at 6:30 whether you like it or not. Not to mention that if you work the night shift, or were out all night, your sleeping is going to get ed up.
Yea, Toronto is a large city, and yes, they want to expand, but I don't think it is necessary that they are disturbing residents at 6:30 in the morning... on a Sunday morning no less. |

as i said..what about when you want to do something that " disturbs" others? Living close to civilisation means putting up with it |

Unfortunately, I must say I disagree Theresa. and think its pretty ridiculous the things ppl are demanding these days when they KNOWINGLY and WILLING live in one of Canada's BUSIEST and most densely populated cities.
I lived in Waterloo, on Erb St W, LITTERALLY right in front of that massive vacant fenced in dirt lot they were excavating and digging up like 7 dayts a week a number of years ago... 2001/2002 I believe. Jus past the Zehrs (at the time) by the Uptown Plaza, near that Waterloo Recreation Complex. I was that very first house on the right hand side (if u were coming off of King St)
I was living in the third floor and had no window save for my door which lead out onto a deck. It was also the Summer time, so when Id sleep or whenever I was home, I'd have it open for air circulation (didnt use an A/C) as that was one of hte hottest summers I recall in recent memory.
You just dealt w/ the noise. It wasnt intolerable. Ppl just are whining too much these days and have no tolerance for anything that even slightly inconviences them. Its so absurd and bloody ridiculous to hear about.
Fack. Just deal with it... I did. Its not THAT bad.

Im have the same opinion on 2nd hand smoke as well, and I'm not a smoker, nor even usually a J smoker either.
I admit I love leaving a club not smelling of smoke, but i didnt really care that much. Tolerance! I wanted to club, therefore I just put up with it relising that was the environment and one factor you encounter there. If i truly didnt wanna deal, i should have stayed home... |

people develop lung cancer from working in environment in which they are exposed to 2nd hand smoking, i.e. waiters and bartenders
so please don't equate two completely different things.
whiners? i believe being able to live in a health-friendly environment is something every individual in this country is entitled to, and since when being able to sleep/rest in peace is such big of a luxury? |

they arent 2 different things. Both are "annoyances" according to some people. People are actually making a case now for the effects of noise pollution on your health. So whats next? Banning "2nd hand noise pollution?"
The rationale most people have for banning smoking time and time again is simply "it makes my clothes smell". Hardly criteria to make a law for is it?
No one is saying they cant have peace and quiet. But how can you expect complete silence in a bustling city? Its the exact same thinking that goes into people buying a house next to a train track/highway and then complaining about the train or heavy traffic.
If you dont want to put up with other people's potential noise, THEN DONT LIVE NEXT TO OTHER PEOPLE! We have millions of square kilometres in this country in which to live very very peacefully. Although i suspect then these same people would complain about "annoying wildlife" ting in their gardens
In the past we used to ignore these people. Now they make laws for them. |

excuse me, but how can an obvious health risk be an "annoyance"? i could agree that the risks of noise being a huge risk to health is debatable, but NO WAY will I agree on the fact that 2nd hand smoking is an annoyance! |

Does anyone force you into a smoking room? Or a nightclub for that matter? Id say that second hand smoking is an annoyance. If you are really concerned for your health, the bus driving down the street IS a health risk as are all the cars on a busy boulevard. I have no choice but to breathe that in do i? Meanwhile no one ever forced anyone to be in a place where people were smoking, did they? |

Im a non smoker. However i dont feel that i have the right to impose that on smokers at all times. Especially not when its a voluntary decision on my part whether or not to enter a place where people are smoking. I used to be able to avoid smoke if i wanted to just like a lot of people live in the countryside to avoid the noise of the city.
Why is it that everyone now feels that have an entitlement to have it their way all the time? People have a complete lack of tolerence for the lifestyles of others or even the mere presence of them. And im sick of that mentality. Its time to take back our society from the selfish whiners and learn how to live like a community again instead of the indvidual selfish enclaves that we have created in our households. |
