Rob, please make sure on 3 things for me.
Get a UV flourescent lamp. I had tortoises coming in every week that had soft shell or MBD "Metabollic Bone Disease" and its a nightmare to get them healthy again once they get that. You need a bulb that says 5.0% or higher. The animals shell should be 8-12" away from this light for atleast 6 hours a day, preferably more.
Read up on hibernation. Most european species of tortoises like the ones you listed require hibernation once they reach 5 years old (They have to build up fat stores). So please read into hibernation, not all owners do it but it is believed to be healthier for the animal (Theres alot of debate on this)
And lastly, whatever you do! Do not take advice from Petsmart!!!!
Read books and websites from now until you buy the animal. This way you can get a good knowledge of whats needed for the animal. If you ask someone at petsmart, your tortoise will die...simple :) |

Yup! Definitely read up on all that stuff... I'm going to get this light:

And yeah, I'll never take any info from a Petsmart employee, as I'm thoroughly convinced they're all pretty much morons :)
And as far as hibernation goes - From what I've read it seems that most owners actually don't do this and their tortoises end up fine, however they do say that after about 5 years if you can, you should hibernate them for around 6 weeks... I don't know, I'll see what happens as it comes.
