you don't want a turtle - turtles live in water, hard to take care of, and smelly.
you want a tortise. easy to take care of, little, if any fuss, and if you get certain kinds (russian tortise, box etc.) they can be quite affectionate! |

Are these tortoises small and easy to obtain? |

russian tortoise is like $60 at petsmart, and usually mid-end of summer they go on sale.
they are really really really easy to take care of, buy a book on them or just google them. basically, feed them veggies, every other day let them chill out in some 1/2 inch deep water, and give them lots of sun. |
