That lamp is the same as the ones we used in store. They're very good, but remember no matter what the bulb says, change them every 6-9 months because of the UV output deterioration.
If you can find a bulb called "Zoomed Powersun 100w" buy it...they tend to be slightly more expensive but we had alot less problems with them that the "T-rex UV Heat"

What are you using in the way of substrate?
Have you looked at calcium supplements yet?

I probably wont be able to answer for 24 hours but i'll try to get on sooner, night. :)

The substrate I'm planning on using is 50% sand and 50% "Bed a Beast," which was again recommended by the Russian Tortoise site I posted earlier... The calcium supplement is trickier... Any suggestions?

The tortoise should outlive me, I want him to be well taken care of when I'm gone ;)

And I don't do cocaine. Especially off of my tortoise' shell.

You need to look at the specific calcium to phosphorus ratio you need for russian tortoises...i cannot remember it exactly...but it will come pre-mixed, its just a case of buying the right supplement.
You need to make sure you have good quality calcium and a good quality UV light as they both need each other in order to be beneficial.

Basically, the UV light gives the animal vitamin D3 which will be absorbed through the shell. Vitamin D3 then allows the tortoise to digest calcium therefore giving him strong bones and a healthy shell. I cannot stress how important this is! I had a customer come in to the store who had a tortoise without using UV or Calcium, it was walking in the kitchen and the normally friendly terrier dog turned and bit the tortoises shell. Cracked the shell, tortoise had to be put down. If she was using UV and calcium, it would have been more likely to break her dogs teeth than damage the tortoises shell!

The way you use calcium supplement is by sprinkling it over the food probably twice a week (varies depending on the brand) and then use multi-vitamins for 3 days of the week. Over doing vitamins and calcium can be just as dangerous as underdoing it as eventually it can cause solid lumps of mineral deposits in the gut. But again, if you follow directions on the packaging you cant go far wrong.

I'll try to find some recommended calcium brands available in america ok?

Thanks Jackson, that'd be a HUGE help! I really appreciate your thoughtfulness man!

Ideally what you want is human grade calcium...the good thing about it is that it has a sugar attached to the calcium (im crap at explaining chemistry) so it makes it alot easier for the animal to absorb.
I'd probably use:
- Rep Cal with vitamin D3
- Zoomed Reptivite multivitamin

my very first pet was a tiny little turtle and i named him Lucas. he died from the bug guy coming and spraying our apartment. it was really sad. my mom cried. i kinda got over it quickly though which is weird because i'm hyper senstive about animals now. i wonder why i wasn't that upset.
