It's on TMN...
Unbelievable 4 part documentary (directed by Spike Lee) on Hurricane Katrina + aftermath... wow what a ing disaster. Highly recommend this doc... |
When Spike isn't being tied down with stupid labels ('the black producer'), and just allowed to work, he makes some wonderful movies. |

Fair Trade can blow me :D
I'm not going to pay more for an inferior product when I can get a superior product at a cheaper price.
Fair Trade is not the most economically efficient way to product wealth to the farmers.
A much better solution would be to subsidize the farmers.
I can draw you the graphs if you would like to see :D

"The film presents and illustrates Chomsky's and Herman's propaganda model, the thesis that corporate media, as profit-driven institutions, tend to serve and further the agendas of the interests of dominant, elite groups in the society. A centerpiece of the film is a long examination into the history of The New York Times's coverage of Indonesia's invasion and occupation of East Timor, which Chomsky claims exemplifies the media's unwillingness to criticize an ally." - wikipedia
Its an amazing Canadian film that was recomanded to me by one of my professors. If you enjoyed zietigst, you will like this even more.
If anyone watches it and feels like discusing, a separate thread can be made |

Haven't watched this particular documentary but I'm familiar with the theme of this documentary quite well. I'm planning on reading the book someday.
I watched another documentary that is related to this (the idea of manufacturing consent, propaganda, etc). It's called Century of Self (4 part series). I posted it in that Zeitgiest thread not too long ago but nobody paid attention to it. It delves even deeper into the idea of mob manipulation, the history and effects of Freud's psychological breakthroughs and how they led to the creation of the field of PR (and marketing, advertising, etc).
