Threads. It is a British documentary about society after a nuclear war. Most depressing thing I've ever seen in my entire life, but an outstanding eye-opener.

Wow, nice thread buddy! I also love documentaries and they really do make for such good edutainment. There is so much brain rotting crap out there, I find it a real treat to watch something intelligent and thought provoking for a change. Feed your mind!

And ya, The Corporation is a personal favourite of mine.

+1 I read the book and watched the video in a class of mine. Both were excellent!

Great thread though Pett. I'm totally into the "true story" thing. One of the few reasons I want cable/satellite to get the History channel or Discovery channel or something. I'm stuck with normal TV.

Since I don't have these channels...where do you get most of your documentaries? I don't think you can really rent many at Blockbuster or watch full ones on the internet...can you?

Also, I caught a bit of a documentary on a tornado that hit Windsor, ON back in 1946 on the weekend. It was pretty interesting - but freaked me out on my drive home the next day in the dark when I thought I saw a funnel cloud!

is that really a documentary? I thought documentaries were supposed to be based on fact? none the less it sounds cool.

if you like nature documentaries, anything by david attenbourough

like

Life of Mammals
Life of Birds
The Blue Planet
Life in the Undergrowth
The state of the planet

these are all excellent

another excellent BBC doumentary is called "The century of the self" and its about how freuds cousin used the ideas of the ego and ID to conform and shape society today through marketing to your inner desires. very cool.

and the best place to get these, is your public library. although i know, for example, that there is a year's wait on life of birds at the downtown college/spadina library :S

"The Five Obstructions" - Based on Jorgen Leth's "The Perfect Human". Lars Von Trier has him remake the short film 5 times but with 5 restrictive obstructions.

Moments of play" - Jorgen Leth - How people play in different cultures

"The Take" - about the economic collapse in Argentina. Produced and directed by Avi Lewis and Naomi Klein

Michael Palin - Himalaya series

"Road Stories for the Flesh Eating Future" - Lewis Cohen - all about technology, cloning; it's like William Gibson in real life. Amazing!

"The corporation" - not a favourite but important nonetheless

Excellent thread.

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.....amazing documentary shot right at the time that the Chavez government in Venezuela was overthrown for 48 hours. It really opens your opens to what Chavez really tries to do for his country, how much the people really love him, and the propaganda spewed against him by the rich elite in the country as well as the US.

Bowling For Columbine....Moore's finest and most powerful documentary in my opinion.

Global Dimming....BBC documentary on a phenomenom occuring around the world with regards to the earth being able to absorb the sun's light after all the enivronmental damage that has occurred. Pretty scary stuff.

Gaza Strip....documentary about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from a Palestinian boy's viewpoint.

One absolutely amazing doc...Control Room! Based on the war in Iraq, but you get the Arabic perspective. Covered by Al Jazeerah
