i agree there is worse crap out there but i see nothing odd in this type of celebrity artist-thingy.
with the celebrity centered media climate we have today it's easy to make a "star" out of anybody who is "recognized".
nice to see her to squirm and moan infront of the camera, like i haven't seen any other popstar doing that... |

Actually, it's a cover of UB40's Kingston Town, with alternate lyrics. But you were in the right ballpark.
Someone's already mashed it up to show the parallels.
The most ironic about this partnership is that UB40 was named after British Unempolyment Benefit Form 40, aka the welfare check....as that is where the group formed: In the line at the welfare office. The odd juxtoposition of this, of someone richer than god making even more money by taking and selling the ideas of an earthy, urban, ragtag bunch of caribbean folk musicians who sang mostly about poverty, loneliness, political injustice and economic despair. Something ironic about that. And fraudulent. Reggae has always been working-class music....the plight of the people and all that. To see it co-opted like this is unsettling.
Regarding Paris: Don't ever foster the delusion that this is something new. Paris Hilton is simply this generation's Marie Antoinette....or, for a more contemporary example, Zsa Zsa Gabor. The rich have always done this. The omni-presence of media just makes it more transparent to us.
Regarding her song: Quite honestly, it's a catchy track, if only because it reminds me of listening to UB40 while playing Madden Football on the SNES as a kid, and it's gotten me to pull out my UB40 discography in memory. Still, I would pick this track in a heartbeat over anything Above & Beyond have ever put out, which I find far more musically vapid and forced.
But why aren't you guys beating down Rihanna for ripping off Soft Cell? Or anyone in the pop music industry? This is done all the time. Don't think it's new just because someone you deteste is now doing it. |

| because Jonathan Rotem did a better job when sampling soft cell in his production for the rihanna track then Fernando Garibay did when sampling Kingston Town for the paris hilton track |

both are ing unlistenable though. |

| the rihanna track is fairly decent really, and i like it better possibly because it's a catchier production, the paris hilton track is just as catchy but it just doesn't work it, it almost has the same halfarsedness of armins' track shivers |

I guess that DJ will have to quit, as I'm guessing you were talking about Milwaukee's 103.7 Kiss FM WXSS. According to Mediabase, the song is in Top 20 rotation this week at the station

I also have to agree with Rebel9 that there are worse Pop hits out there at the moment. Again, look at the most played songs on this local Milwaukee station. You see Nick Lachey in there, you see this super ghetto Rap hit from Young Joc called "It's Goin Down" (I like some Hip Hop but this is kinda blech). Or that annoying Pop song from Cassie "Me & U". |
:wtf: stalker in the making
he runs a request slot and he refused to play it. still hasnt quit and i still havent heard him play it.
Also I'd rather listen to Nick Lachey or Young Joc than Paris Hilton. |

whoever it is, is bad. the chorus effect masks how bad the voice really is. but once the chorus is off, the raw voice sounds like heavy half melodic whispers. |
