Paul Van Dyk interview with 3D World Magazine in Australia. This article was published quite a while ago, March 2006 I believe, and I was gonna post this sooner, but I simply forgot about it.

Anyway, in this interview PVD says that he "is not a trance DJ, that he doesn't play those records... he simply doesn't play those records".

I dunno, this kinda put me off. Like, sorry Paul, I've heard your sets... You're a ing trance DJ alright!

quote:
“This is one of the reasons why I’ve said it’s not really right to label me a trance DJ, because I don’t play those records! I simply don’t play those records! When you listen to my DJ sets, they consist of everything I love about electronic music; it can be Chris Liebing-style techno or Freeland-style breakbeats. And of course there are going to be some trancey records in the middle and some housey tracks, but it’s the combination of it all that makes a unique sound and this is what is interesting. So I think Gareth did really well to say something like this.”

That is quite true, last time i heard Underworld and The Prodigy in one of his sets.

Ya sure he plays other styles in his sets... but it's proposterous to say he doesn't play trance records.

Hmmmmmm... the only way this statment can be true is maybe it's cause he doesn't play records anymore
Az

Mortyman

humilis

Dude 80 % what you spin is Trance:rolleyes:

That´s an old story. PVD is ashamed to admit he plays trance.
pvdclubber
labeling pvd as "the" trancemeister pisses pvd off, he has often commented on this.

i've seen him quite a few times and enjoyed some really "hard" sets,

it depends on the venue, pvd plays more varied music in smaller venues.

Dubster
TechTrance and Techno imo.

He doesnt play "trance" in the same way as say Armin does.
erdega
armin plays mostly boring progressive in his alleged "ASOT"
