I kind of agree, he is not very good at trance :) I have honestly never understood why he's so popular among trance poeple. To me his music sounds like Euro-dance or that kinda soft weird stuff. |

I agree that he can be a hypocrite with this whole trance thing, but I don't care if he's a trance DJ/Artist or not. As long as he does good music regardless of genre.
Regardless, whether he's says he does or doesn't do 'trance', action always speaks louder than words. |

Only his recent stuff. This is why he's a hypocrite: he used to make brilliant trance but steadily got more and more mainstream friendly until now, where he really is at the level of Lasgo or whoever. He's helped trance over and he complains about other culprits. |

I remember interviews from 2001 where he said stuff like this, it seems to me that he wants to be thought of as a generic "electronic music" DJ.
It makes sense, he has played all sorts of hit dance tunes that aren't trance in many of his sets, he seems to play "trancey" like a balance between what he likes and what is currently popular, everybody does that . |

He's spinning more and more crap house these days, interspersed with some tech-electro house from 2005. Then he throws in some trance here and there, and layers As The Rush Comes randomly over some song via Ableton.
Trust me, I've been to a show, and when he does that last thing I mentioned, it's not pretty. Good thing it only lasts for a couple of minutes before he ablepwns out of it.
I still think he's ok, but 2006 hasn't been his best for sure, though he usually brings it out by September-November to retain his spot, or move up in the DJ Mag polls. |

Maybe he feels he can get away with playing not so great music from time to time because he has all this new technology and thinks it will always sound better when he rips and experiments with it.
Despite not being a music technician, I feel he shouldn't get too carried away. I still think he's great but maybe he should find his old roots and do music like he did then. I don't mean old trance but the taste and techniques behind it. I don't want to start flaming about the 'old & new' trance palaver but you get the idea.
If he keeps the No.1 spot again this year then fair enough. But since he's not had a good a year as last, it would be best if someone else got his spot like Sasha or someone. :p
