i'd say that one of the most important things to look for, if you're going to be carrying it around with you, is that you should find one that is light-weight. my laptop is a 15.4" widescreen Toshiba Satellite which is great, but i wish i had a smaller, lighter laptop. it's not even all that heavy, i think it's only like 6 lbs but it just feels heavier since it's kinda big.

you can get MUCH better deals through sites like newegg.com and pcmall.com and tigerdirect.com but if your dad insists on buying one from Best Buy i guess you're pretty much stuck with that. if you can get him to buy one from somewhere else i can actually give you the name of a guy who works for pcmall.com who can help you choose a laptop perfect for your needs, and he might be able to get you a deal on it too.

my next laptop is probably gonna be a MacBook Pro. i just wish they had them in the 13" model. :\

Thanks everyone. I’m definitely going to be trucking it around a lot, so the weight thing I will take into consideration. I also want one with a long battery life. But I want to get a nice case for it and everything. One of those laptop backpacks. Do they come with them?

www.eBags.com has a huge selection of laptop bags - messenger style bags, backpacks, women's bags, etc... most of them will tell you what size laptop they'll fit. if you end up with a larger screen laptop (15.4"-17") you'll need to make sure you find a bag with a compartment large enough for it.

i got a really sweet Ultimate Direction bag on there for like $60 that fits my laptop and a few books and random stuff, and you can switch between using it as a messenger bag or a backpack, which is really convenient.

Ok so I was planning on just buying a used laptop from craigslist or something, but then yesterday I was thinking about how my dad recently went to BestBuy and financed a sick flat screen tv with surround sound and all that stuff. So I thought, “oh what the hell, the worst that can happen is he’ll say ‘no’”. So I call up my dad and give him this sob story about how I really need a computer for school and I really want a laptop so I can use it at the book store or the coffee shops and I can bring it to school, etc… and wouldn’t u know, he didn’t even hesitate. He told me to start looking for some online and he’s gonna see what he can do. I told him I would pay the monthly payments if he just went and did the financing for me since he has a credit card with them

Soooo…..what’s a good laptop? I really like those gateway ones, but those are kinda pricey right? I don’t need a huge fancy one to watch movies on or whatever. Just want to download tunes, surf the web and have a few programs on there for school like adobe photoshop. And that’s about it.

What are some mandatory specs I should look for? I want a big harddrive and lots of memory so I can multitask and I also want something that I can constantly upgrade.

Thanks for any info and make it a great daY!

I went to BestBuy and CompUSA, couldnt finance my own laptop.

Youre going to be limited to what Best Buy is carrying. I dont think you can choose your specs.
