theyve been since the original pentium.
toshiba or fujitsu, thats it. figure out needs and portability. portability costs money, but upgrades are expensive and hard to come by with laptops. so spend money now, so the puter lasts a while| |

| i got an hp pavillion zd8000, i love it... its widescreen, extremely clear, if u look at their demos, go to the media player and try playin the different things they have on it, mine came with a little movie about egypt and it looks amazing on this screen, it also has 100gb harddrive....pentium 4.... i havent had any problems with it yet.... |

honestly thats overkill for what you gonna be using it for but you'll be able to take it on a plane and watch dvds with it and it shouldn't be all that bad carrying wise since its about 6lbs. just make sure you get a nice bag as myra said.
as for the flash drives, you probably won't need one unless your moving from computer to computer, and if so, you'll probably only need a small inexpensive one for small files like word docs and such.
im looking at the same one myself, but im kinda torn between the macbook pro and the toshiba... |

i know, a lot of ppl are saying go with the macbook because that's all they have at my school and my buddy told me u can run windows on mac now???
the macbooks are huge though. i will be doing lots of artsy stuff on it and i'm def gonna need adobe photoshop, but i can run that on a pc notebook too.
i really think asking my dad to get me a 3k macbook is a little too much. i just need something to hold me over for a while until i can afford to go get something really fancy. i'll probably go mac when i get a desktop, but i'm pretty set on my laptop being a pc. |

Don't get something to hold you over, its a complete waste of money I think, especially if the difference is only a couple hundred bucks.
Don't they have small macbooks? |

it should handle ps fairly well but if you are going artsy, macbookpro is the way to go. i imagine you are in the middle of school and work stuff and maybe a "move" out of miami so this should hold you down until you solidify your job, school and living arrangements. then maybe pursue something a bit more expensive and high-end.
and to be honest, my old laptop even though it doesn't do jack crap anymore (p2 400 lol) it acts as a great internet portal on my coffee table for people who come over to my apt and want to surf the net. 1-i dont give a fuk what people download on it 2-you offer some form of entertainment to your guest 3-if your too lazy to get up to go to ur computer and ur laying on ur sofa - walla just reach out and hit the laptop
so i don't think laptops ever get outdated because they are never intended on being a full-processing power machine and definitely have alternative uses like when you travel and such =)
overall i think it's a decent buy, not a steal but doesnt damage your wallet. hell my snowboard setup cost more than that =T |
