Sorry to hijack the thread but to add to what you said, the word racism is going to lose meaning with the way people exploit it to their advantage along with the freedom of speech and expression.
Im cant stand america and its policies but nothing bugs me more than seeing american residents of other nationalities protesting american policies against the countries they ran away from. You'v obviously run away from that country for a reason -be it seeking money, asylum or watever so why have double standards and practice your culture here. You adopted america as your country of choice so start living like an american. |

| our government saved their own people instead of getting stuck in bureaucratic procedures that would have meant the delay of evacuation and could have cost those people their lives. i applaud the government. people complain about the fact that we keep running surpluses, well use that money to cover this "extraordinary item" as accountants call it. |

I do not agree with that statement. Say I had to move there for a year for work and this happened. I would want the Canadian gov to evacuate me. But the gov should have a clear policy stating that I should reimburse later. I would be willing to do that as I would imagine most people would in a desperate situation. Not evacuating Canadian citizens is not an option... the gov will look bad and they would never let that happen. |

They aren't requesting repayment because there is a very large Lebanese community in Montreal and the Conservatives desperately want to take seats in Montreal. Similarly, the provincial Liberals waived the 3 month waiting period for OHIP because they want the Lebanese vote in Toronto. |

actually at first the government wasnt going to do anything. Until the complaints and allegations of racism started. |
