if I'm not mistaken, here in NYC, alot of the nurses and nurse practioners(sp?) in our hospitals are now unionized...is this the same through out? |
I'm not too sure (actually I'm going to a seminar for this tomorrow). The thing is, nurses don't JUST work for the hospital...you can work IN the hospital through a private company, or an agency, like my friend.
It's all about options, baby. Nursing rules! In more ways than one. Heehee. |

Honestly I have no idea. I really think it depends on who the nurse chooses to work for. If she doesn't want to be unionized, then she'll most likely go find an agency or whatever that isn't. I don't think unionization is implemented across the board.
Why do you ask about Florida? I live in Canada, btw. :p
Actually my friend is going on a work exchange there soon...I can ask her.
If you're really interestd to know, I'll have more info after tomorrow, hehe.
edit: I just realized the sexism of my post by referring to nurses just as women. Oops! |

| sorry was under the impression you was a floridian, canadian makes sense eH...im not asking because i'm interested in the profession, just because I know a few people who are opening up labs here in nyc and have been approached by unions to employ those low-level nurses and maintence people. i guess i can understand the relation since hospitals are gov't facilities |

| Ahhh...well thanks for asking anyways. This is stuff I wouldn't have thought to ask about, but is probably good to know. |

i would think a unionized job is much to be desired. that's full benefits and stability of salary security, something alot of people don't have. |

Well I remember a woman from the RNAO (Registered Nurses Association of Ontario) telling us that it's actually not always good for nurses to be unionized. Nurses are already regulated and all that rot by the College of Nurses, and we have lots of things in place for our protection/security/interests/etc. already. |

Yeah nurses make lots. It all depends who you work for.
It's not hourly, it's salary. My best friend makes 66, 000 a year working through an agency. She works part time. She also holds another part time job for a diff. hospital making 45 bucks an hour.
It IS a lot, that's why I lol'ed.
edit: I'm talking about RNs btw. We make the big bucks. :D |

you'll get yours do'nt worry. I was prepared to go to graduate school and I applied pretty much my entire seinor year in College. I got jack ish. Then in Mid July some one took me for an interview(Monster.com, temp to hire ish) I did the job interview and went ok and they hired me. Now I am underpiad but they pay for grad school so I am taking advantage of that this spring so I can get my next degree with exp and get a better pay job than this dump.
In the end no matter how much Education you have you will eventually get a job as long as you keep applying.
I had no internship
I had no frineds in my field of work
All I had a was friendly adivce that I am giving to you.
Peace and I still do valet because it pays better because its all green and none of that BS pay check with tax being taken out.(1/3 practically I am losing every week):whip: |

Yeah no . I can't stand pompous s who think the only way of learning anything valueable is by going to school.
I've met TONS of people who didn't go to college who are just as, if not more, intelligent and or/successful than these so called "intellectuals". |
