Worst thing was as greg says the gown, I had to put it on, with a dressing gown, and literally walk out of my room, about 15 yards up an empty corridor with a nurse, turn into the operating, walk 10 yards and remove it again, such a waste.

did they wear stockings?

And I'm sure you could wear stockings if they were comfortable for you. I doubt anyone would see them under your scrubs. :p

Anyone can be a focker these days. ;)

I literally asked a fellow tech that, and she made a good point. They are simply over-worked. I had also wondered, well why is there always such a need for RNs or RTs....does the job end up being so ty that it drives people out of the profession?

My cousin's wife is a nurse, and she & many of her friends left the hospital's payroll, to be re-employed with a private agency which paid more money, and wouldn't allow them to be over-worked like they were before. Now the problem is that with the EU countries basically meaning free-for-all over Europe, a lot of polish workers have come & filled these jobs, willing to work for the lower wage

I run into nurses while getting patients from their rooms and such, and I came to a conclusion that the nurses are all miserable. Especially, the older ones. I wondered, "is it a pre-requisite to be miserable in order to be a nurse?"
I literally asked a fellow tech that, and she made a good point. They are simply over-worked. I had also wondered, well why is there always such a need for RNs or RTs....does the job end up being so ty that it drives people out of the profession? But then I realized, for the same reason nurses are over-worked, that the number of patients keep increasing, and hospitals keep expanding.

So, needless to say, I am still happy in my decision of a career...and we should expect to work hard....but the pay off in the end is quite sweet. :)

Yeah the burn-out rate for nurses is extremely high. Gotta think about what we're doing though, and it makes sense. We're taking on these people's pain. Forming relationships with them and their families. We're sort of like living angels. It's emotionally and spiritually draining.

Some are better suited to do it than others...and those are obviously the ones who aren't miserable.

It's pretty much guaranteed that work will come home with me on some occasions. It's an occupational hazard. But that's what I love about my school and the curriculum...they really teach us about the "art" of nursing, so that we'll be prepared for this kind of stuff.

So it's not the job itself that sucks...it's actually very rewarding and fulfilling (for a person like me anyways). It's just the "side effects" of it. But I'll deal with that. Heh.

It kinda pisses me off with all the effort I put into it;

I wasted several years of my life to finish high school and get a diploma that will end up being useless after all. I had to suffer from a crappy education system that made me waste years of my life that I could've used to advance faster. By the time I come out of university, I'll have a heavy dept to pay off with a weak salary that's barely half of what my high school dropout friends will have been making for 9 years (while I was earning no income at all).

whoa chill. Dont be so hard on yourself. Its not useless at all. Some jobs still do require degrees. Its an accomplishment & something that you will always have to fall back on if needed.

Nope, my HS diploma will end up being useless regardless. Traditionally you need one to enter college, and a college diploma to enter university. Since I'll be old enough next year, I'll be entering uni directly as a mature student (without my college diploma).
