you are going to have to give more examples than that one.

all girls would give the same response, especially in montreal.

i find people there the least friendly.

Sure here's another one.

I know a shy girl who's been interested in a guy for about 2 years. So she finaly gets the guts to go talk to him. It so happens that he was talking to another guy when she goes talk to him. The response:

"Can't you see I'm busy?"

You know there are betters ways to say that, escpecially when your a restaurant manager. Like "Hold on a sec, I'll be right with you."

Yes maybe she shouldn't have interrupted him. I completly agree. But none the less, his response was innaceptable IMHO.

Because the frequency it happens in TO is much greater than anywhere else.

As I said in the original post....

Don't get me wrong, there are tons of great people here and of course there are s just like everywhere else, but it seems to me that Toronto has more than it's fair share of the A-hole ones.

I have travelled quite extensively and lived overseas and i can tell you that ive never been anywhere as stuck up as toronto. But dont confuse the snobbery with elitism. The problem here is that toronto is a VERY self-concious city. Everyone constantly thinks the other guy is out to them over. So the "confidence" or over confidence if you will, is actually a self defence mechanism.

Why is Toronto like this? I really dont know. I have yet to figure that one out.

Its not merely a big city thing. Ive been to cities 3 times the size of toronto, opened a map, and had not just help finding directions, but offers of a ride to the destination! Sadly in Toronto, if you offered that people would automatically think you want to rob them.

In Toronto, being a nice and casual person is taken in one of two ways.

a) this person is really dumb and i can take advantage of him. What a loser!

or

b) What does this person want from me? He definately wants something.

Either way the outcome is not good which is why most go for the route and the standoffish attitude. I had a friend from new zealand who was here for 6 months say it best. "Toronto has a sad case of social retardation".

I couldnt agree more.

DISCLAIMER: Most people on TOTA are a big exception i find but thats probably why we are on this board in the first place :)

Montrealers really freak me out, cuz many seem like they are oversexed people, where the women dress like whores and anything goes. Maybe thats why Montrealers seem so 'friendly' to you? ;)

LOL stay away from Europe then! :)

Towards men, I probably display the attitude you are describing. As a woman you are always on your guard...last night I was trying to hail a cab at Jarvis and Carlton (in runners, a hoodie and glasses) and this man approached me as if I was a prostitute! like how much business did he think I got in this outfit?

well i hate to say it, but when you are on one of the most notorious hooker corners in the city and you are just standing there.... what did you expect? Seriously!

Doesnt mean you have to be on guard at the grocery store or whenever ANYONE approaches you for any reason.

well what can I say - sucks to be you ;)

Yes, Zeiboo many others share this opinion.

The next 4-6 months will be the last term I spend residing in Toronto for a very very very long time.

Not to mention that Toronto has the outstanding ratio of 7-10 men to one women in almost any given place. If those odds were reversed in my favour guess I might be acting abit on top of the world and pretentious too lol
