i think we have heard this all before, from different levels of that religion.
how long will the clash go on for before our 2 societies really see that its never going to work?
and i dont mean just in aus, britain etc as well.
it just feels that someday, something big will happen and topple everything, and something like cronulla will be on a crazy scale. |
Sadly I think this is true. I can see another Crusade arising :nervous: |

My god its the funniest show on TV.
Unfortunately guys I think the kids in Werribee showed that this isnt a "muslim" issue but a problem that all religions/societies are having to deal with!
The degradation of women goes on enough within all of our religions. Yes the guy is an animal and yes I agree he should be deported but maybe focus on what he has said and not what his religion is. Not all muslims agree with this!
I dont see a thread on here about what happened to that poor girl in Werribee :conf: I mean cmon, those kids blamed JACKASS! |

of course they dont, but that doesn't mean gender bias isnt at the heart of how islam is practiced in many countries and by many people.
religion IS to blame, because its a yardstick to measure and inform one's outlook on life, and isn't open to the same level of criticism other belief systems are. ie, "because god said so" is good enough for too many people  |

Yeah well its better than "JOHNNY KNOXVILLE SAID SO"
PKC I dont agree with it at all and yes religion is a part of the problem but what do you use to blame for all the Christians who think women are nothing and deserve to be raped!
How many of you said when girls were attacked by footballers that they deserved it? Everyone made jokes about it.
I think its great that you guys are saying something against this but dont do it because he is a muslim. |

why not?
when someone in his position says these things, its hard to seperate the religion from the man, as it is his identity. |

It worries me that nobody seems that concerned with the treatment of women until it comes from the mouth of a muslim.
As a woman I am more concerned with the people committing these crimes than a stupid man preaching tacky analogies. The problem has been here before he said what he said.
So maybe I am broadening the subject a little. Yes get rid of the crazy muslim from Lukemba and all of you love your women and treat them with respect.
And send gifts, preferably Tiffany's jewellery ;) |

as much as it pains me to say it, i agree with gumble. this guy was acting in his role as spiritual leader, and giving a sermon. to my mind, this makes religion part of the debate. especially since he advocates (or mentions) wearing muslim dress to avoid rape.
sexual assault is always a serious point of discussion, however for me at least, it becomes more important when leaders start preaching ideas that are totally foreign to me, in a country where these ideas just aren't welcome. im sorry, but sexism is an inherent part of muslim practice around the globe, and as a far more enlightened society we need to confront those that attempt to spread antiquated ideas in an environment where we are trying to achieve gender equality.
ill buy you pretty presents charlee, but only if you blow me. |

They are obviously welcomed by some!
As I said religion is certainly PART of the argument although you cant say that all Australians are against this kind of idea and just muslims encourage it.
Certainly people in positions of power should not have approval to act in such a manner. I guess the same should be said for high profile sports stars that commit crimes against women and get away with it?
Send the gift first PKC!! |

| Do I believe that muslims are sexist? Yes. Anyone who makes their woman cover up is a sexist **** in my book. Why is it OK for the woman to wear the wraps but not the man? |

| yeah well isnt there something wrong when these days a women can walk past wearing virtually nothing and yet if you wolf whistle at her she can sue you for sexual harrassment? i think she is doing the harassing! |

| Anti Islamic propaganda... the media is just preying on your insecurities and prejudices. Don't believe everything you read. This has likley been mis-interpreted by journalists (and we all know how accurate and non-biased they are) and blown out of proportion. Get a clue, move out of your Tassie shacks and learn about the world before you condemn a whole religion/people based on "facts" portrayed on the 5 oclock news. |
