Who has not been put on the chopping block that should have been Charlee? |

When all the AFL scandals came out about girls being raped/assaulted how many Australians said openly to the public that they "asked for it"? Tonnes! People were saying that girls who put themselves in front of |

Sports people that get away with this behaviour because it is assumed that the girls involved "asked for it".

that blonde forward who played for fitzroy then sydney got done - but got away with a 250k payout
i dunno i tend to agree a bit like he maybe a religious leader and it was stoopid - but thats what people do - stupid things - hes just one person - should be judged as a single person |

but he's a religious leader with a lot of influence. Thats what religious leaders do, influence people. And then he used Islamic dress to try to justify it.
No we shouldn't write off Islam as a whole because of this, and yes many other religions have similar attitudes towards women. But when a person of influence says things like this in an official context there is right to be incensed. If a Catholic priest etc said similar I'd garuantee similar reactions would occur. |

I'm sorry but that is the biggest generalization of the entire thread almost.
That may be your own opinion, but it certainly wouldn't constitute general opinion.
Once again, what sports people have gotten away with this behaviour? If you're going to keep saying things like that you have to be able to back them up! |

How many people would be walking around saying how ridiculous it is for this leader to state that women who show themselves "ask for it"? But they were the same ones defending their football hero with the same statement.
There is a lot more angst attached to this subject because it involves Islam, that is all I am saying.
I am glad that you all feel so strongly about defending the rights of women. Lets keep it that way :) |

I have never heard anyone say that.. and if I did i would tell them off there and then (just like this muslim situation)
Who's the last person who said this about their football hero? Are you sure your friends with people who have any common sense? Because yours sound like witts.

Now you've really shot yourself in the foot!
Who did Wayne Carey actually rape, and when has he ever preached that womend should watch what they wear otherwise they'll be seen as "asking for it".
And he was charged in a court of law for what happened in King Street. No-one condoned it. The only reason that he didn't get a conviction was because the girl offered to settle out of court for money...
Doesn't sound much like "getting away" with anything to me? |

I didnt say he did. I was being silly ;)
He never said that women should watch what they wear but then what did his actions say?
I am folding. Everyone has an opinion :) |
