i'm an idiot.
ok so ur declawing it?
that's a bad idea because what if (god forbid) something were to happen and he got out of the apt? he wouldn't last a day on his own without them. also, i've heard stories about cats' personalities changing after u get them declawed.
they have this thing where they put these dull, rubber things over the claws instead of actually declawing them. you should ask about that.
also, he's a kitten...he's gonna claw for a while. just make sure u cut his nails regularly and get him a scratching post. he'll start using it and stop clawing other things, u just have to have patience. |

Not necessarily. Bunny's cat has a scratching post that he doesn't use, we've even put cat nip next to it and inside it to he gets used to clawing at it. As soon as the catnip was gone he went back to the couch. Spray bottles, yelling, throwing pillows...that cat doesn't care he still scratches. The only thing that we've found to work are these sticky pads you stick on couch. They're clear, adhesive, nylon pads that stick to the couch. They're double sided so if the cat tries to claw his paws will stick, I guess they don't like it. Only problem is they attract cat hair like mad so you'll have these sticky hairy things on the side of your couch :p You can just replace them, but they look kinda nasty after a while. |

well yea i'm sure every cat is different, but the point is that hers is still a kitty and she should wait a little longer. |

Bunny has had her cats since they were kittens and they've never liked their scratching post. |

i don't think i've ever seen a cat that likes their scratching post. i swear, they're all so bratty it's like they KNOW they should be scratching the post, but boy oh boy... it's just sooo much more fun to scratch the couch, or the speakers, or mommys head while she's sleeping!
i've done some research and read some reviews of SoftPaws (the rubber things to cover the claws) and it seems like most cats will rip them off with their teeth or they won't even stay on to begin with.
believe me guys, it's hard for me to make the "right" choice here because i see how much he loves using his claws to climb on my furniture and on me, but i just feel like it'll be a lot easier for me to play/cuddle with him if he doesn't have claws... and we both love playing and cuddling. |

In my experience, the declawing process only removes the front claws, so he will still have the back ones. Cats learn to attack you by leaping at you with back paws forward and sinking in with their teeth instead of their front claws. They're ing devilishly adaptive creatures. <3
edit: And cats learn to cope just perfectly fine without their claws, honestly. They can still climb and play and bounce around just as much as before, they just have to have a time to adjust to it is all. And it's not like your cat really has to defend itself using claws anyways - running is a cat's best defense against things trying to attack it. But I am not sure why you would need to worry about that. :p |

yeah the can still climb and jump and play withut their front claws..and you can play with them without getting pwnd. It's bull that they lose their balance and character.
DO it via laser surgery. |
