I agree with you that Beastmatching it's a small part of being a DJ, and some people think that being a good DJ means that you can beatmach well.

Now if you want to mix well, you need to learn to beatmatch, that's just a skill that every DJ need to learn.

What if I learn to mix, and do eevrythign else right, EQ, Track Selection, flow, and everything else.

but I still say that I prefer trainwreck

is that right for you?

If you not mixing harmonically then just forget about yourself. Only elistist can appreciate a set that flows well. Trance especially to engender the effect of hypnotism and higher states of consiousness need to notes to flow like waves of the ocean.

NOW if you disagree its like saying well, starbucks coffee is the best when in fact you have never tried a fine italian brew.

Try making an album at home and pick songs and I bet you will look for songs that have the same energy or pitch ie. songs that dot clash. I also dont believe that you can key up that mofo in those headphones that why i write my down and organise it as such.

BTW why do we all love Armin....that mofo middle name is harmonic. You like to listen to his yet possible condemn the techique. Its paradoxical!

What in Gods name are you on about here - That makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever.

Again, what the hell are you talking about? Beyond that - This seems like a purely subjective argument.

Ok, so you can't hear compatible keys in your head, so you write them down. First part of your post that seems relevant to this thread.

We don't. And that's not a paradox either, it's just logic.

Well, I don't and you don't - but some people do.

I think the core of what 996vtwin is saying is don't knock it till you tried it... in a round about sort of way.

I have to disagree though, not everyone loves armin but in my case for different reasons other than how he mixes... more to do with what he mixes.

With regards to using a program and an instrument... never will understand why people do that. Just work on your musical proficiency as it's the only way you will have a chance of learning how to id keys in your head.

Cheers

I'm certainly not challenging that people like Armin - I'd be fool to. I'm simply asserting that the reasoning behind many people condemning him generally has little to do with harmonic mixing. :)

:haha: Oh those goofy noobs. When will they learn...

This topic isnt about Armin and I dont care if you dont like him he plays harmonically on a laptop and is ranked #2 in the world, so dont carry on too much about not liking him because you surely do not make up the majorities.

Finally if you did not understand what I said about harmonic mixing flowing better than discordance then you my friend are well....different. Thats all :)

I do that all the time. I always key it up in my headphones with the song that is playing, and if it does not sound right I take that track out and grab another one I think will match. You are more than welcome to download a mix I just did and let me know what you think. I did not have any of the keys written on the tracks, and the set came out pretty good. I am not saying that it is a waste of time to learn how to key your tracks and mix strictly harmonicly, but you don't have to in order to have a nice flow in your set.
