they dont need to be "super" good ;) just takes a bit of practice, and there are online keyboards you could use. any cheap n nasty appliance will do too. its all pretty simple.

You're implying that you can use your ears to find out if they sound harmonically compatible.

All that matters in music is how it sounds. If they "sound" harmonically compatible, what else is there?

I think you proved Clovis' point with that statment...

I'm actually against DJs who aren't me using harmonics to mix, so you guys go ahead and keep doing it the way you're doing it. Less competition for me.

I really don't see why people get all defensive when discussing harmonic mixing.

I key everything. Do I live and die by it? no - Hell, there are at least 3 mixes in my current demo that if they weren't mixed and EQ'd at the right time they'd sound sour as - But at the end of the day, if I can "know" vs. "guess" keys when I'm playing live - I'd much rather be prepared than take a chance.

It's just like any other tool a DJ has - If you learn how to beatmatch and mix only 1 way, you're going to sound boring. If you mix using Ableton, Traktor, or any other program that you can allow to do some work for you, and you don't find anything innovative to do with it, you're going to sound piss boring. And by the same token, if you live and die by your key codes - You're more than likely going to bore your audience to death.

Tools are meant to help you do a better job, not to do your job for you.

So at first you're bitching about mixing harmonically is the only way and now you're saying that you can't even hear what key the tracks are in and if they sound harmonically unless you prelisten and write everything down?!

No, im implying that i can hear it in my headphones to see if it sounds ok. I would never be able to hear it and pick up what key its in.

Also, just because it might sound all great and dandy in the phones, doesn't meen that when i pull up that fader its gonna be a nice harmonic mix.

So yeah.... i rely on tagging my songs with keys, more so than bpm's.

So no, i didn't prove anyones point but my own.

What the f* are you on about dude?

I rely on mixshare and other sourses to tag my songs, i cannot hear a song and guess what key its in.

And yeah harmonic mixing sounds the best, would you like to prove me wrong?

Pointless road to take since it's all subjective anyways.
