Good point. I remember Paulie called me last year to tell me it was a sure bet that James Hird was about to announce his retirement from AFL at the end of last year. He made an annoucment that night, but not quite that one lol

that is true.

however its not reasonable to compare an office job etc to bonds that you form with your team. these guys spend there lives together, they develop an attachment and love for the jumper they play for etc.

Soccer is just a great example (in most cases) of how little loyalty players have to their teams (until you get into the lower levels of the english leagues). If i played for St Kilda footy club i would never leave the club for extra salary simply because of my love for the club.

That may sound naieve, and i may financially regret it, however thats just how i operate.

Something tells me that Fred isnt hard up for $$$. He just used the Melbourne team to step up to somethign better, which he has done.
