This is so ing true. I have personally sat there and watched two of the corporate lawyers I know spend 2 hours on Christmas day conducting business via their Crackberries while their kids were trying to get them to put together their new toys. |

Ditto. That callousness is what has always sorta warded me off, being consumed.
Sly, you seem set in your ways. Best wishes. Don't let the age deter you. I would feel much more confident entering law school as a non-traditional student, as all the debauchery is out of your system(?) and you're there as a professional, solely to buckle down and not be hindered by the juvenile gossip, drama, mind games, competition, politics, etc. that everyone gets sucked up in and spit out by. It's an advantage. Surpass the masses! |

good luck jamie but just be prepared to not have a real social life anymore once u'll study and be in law school
im in my third year and the pressure is big the work due every week plus all the classes are tiring, that's why we all are more or less our nerves collapsing at the moment haha but if you think u want to do it ...do it but just be prepare and considers it requests a lot of sacrifices but it will pay off in the long run

yes it did.
have u ever worked for an attorney at all? have u worked in a law firm?
my own boss told me what a great idea it is and said that law school is tough but it's just lots of studying and like CJ said, no social life. i'm prepared for that.
the whole point of this decision is chosing a career in which i feel comfortable with...the environment, the work, etc...i'm not saying that i'm going to sit on my ass and be a millionaire. c'mon, give me more credit than that.
but yea, i've worked for tons of attorneys who really dont work very hard (the PI attorneys mostly). they just golf and do an occasional depo here and there...most of it settles presuit. they aren't millionaires, but they easily bring in almost 200k a year probably and work about 20 hours a week. and if they have stuff on the side like real estate investments, etc...then cool. i've never been a fan of putting all my eggs in one basket. i can see myself having investments going on so i dont have to work AS hard as an attorney. |

Oh no, I didn't mean stuff on the side like rel estate - I wasn't trying to come off as condescending by pointing out something obviously possible, sorry if it sounded like that. I meant how do you know he isn't a cocaine trafficker? Or sells human beings as slave labour to third world nations with military regimes for governments? Working 15 hours a week in your "official" job and affording an extravagant lifestyle just rarely seems to actually be what it appears - especially for somebody so young.
No, I've not worked in a law office or even done any real secretary work in my life. There is no doubt in my mind that you know more about the legal process than I do, just by working with and for people who deal with it for a living. I just think that a major decision like this is something that should be approached from as many directions as possible before you actually go through with it, know what I mean? |

Succesful lawyers are not a rare breed but they are not the norm. Don't go that route because of financial interests but only because of the field itself. |
