haha, you are using a different set of standards for her. which isnt fair on your part. because she chose to do what she did, then by the laws, government has the right to choose what to do with her. like in hte usa, lets say you sell weed and then go to jail for it. can you say the government shouldnt be able to choose to put you in jail. no you cant, because the laws, no matter what, need to be followed, and whoever breaks them, and is caught, should and will suffer the consiquences no matter what they are |

I just love people that throw out random numbers to back up their arguments. It makes their initial thoughts that much less credible. If you use numbers, back them up with REPUTIBLE sources and i don't mean jo blows web site for numbers.
People who cry out against the death penalty always use the argument that look at the crime rate and how it is increasing since we use it. What they fail to mention is the exponential increase in population and then degredation that is happening in our society. I think capital punishment is keeping the rate down but i won't throw out numbers to prove my statemnet because they don't exist and they aren't possible.
This doesn't mean i codone the killing of this girl, in fact i think it is very wrong. The punishment is way to harsh for the crime. She should have known the laws in that country and abide by them. But in the US, we put to death mass murder's and rapists and only after they go through a appeal system that last over 20 years in some cases.
So Thor the next time you decide to spam your Liberal views on our country, back your stuff up and don't say lies to support your argument. |

people, let's not forget rosa parks, who broke the law about African-Americans being prohibited from sitting in the front of the bus and got it changed. of course, that was a totally different situation, but look here, isn't the law completely unfair???
that's just ing sick, killing someone for having weed??? wtf is wrong with those people? i agree, drugs are bad, and i'm totally against them, but taking a person's life for that? i don't think so.
alcohol is almost as bad for you as marijuana is, yet it is openly accepted and even expected for people to use alcohol. and the stupid law itself: 500 grams for death penalty? what if someone has 490 grams? ANY amount of weed must be illegal; if they find ANY weed on you, you should go to jail, but for god's sake, killing someone over it?
yeah, the woman did choose to break the law and she knew the penalty, but what about all those people who try to run away from police and go on rampages @ speeds of over 100mph? what about murderers, robbers, etc.? don't they know the penalty? i agree, this single case might prevent others from doing the same thing, but people will still break the law. SENTENCING SOMEONE FOR DEATH PENALTY BECAUSE OF POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA IS NOT RIGHT!!! |

Like Michael Fay when I was back in Junior High..when he vandalized the public property around Singapore and received the 4 strokes instead of 6 (pardoned by Bill Clinton). The Singapore Government is making a point out to the general public that illegal activities will not be tolerated no matter where you come from...Sad but True...but trust me, I sincerely feel for this girl...More and more teens and young adults are experimenting with drugs, some get away and some behind bars.
I myself have had brushes with the law when I was a teenager, who doesn't? Trust me, Singapore is one country not to be ed with...
Also, it's the only nation in SE Asia where the Police have more political power over the Military. The Central Narcotics Bureau is a sad place to be when caught with any type of substances...from Codine (a popular chemical used in Cough syrups) to hard like Heroin, Ketamine, Metamphetamines. The officers have totally no respect for you whatsoever, and will, I repeat, beat you to a pulp...akin to the orange juice you see at Orange Julius.
For consumption of marijuana, a relatively but hard to find vegetation on this small island, one could get 3 years (no such thing as parole) straight behind bars.
Consumption of Ecstasy will land one in jail for 6 years minimum.
Not too say that drugs are still not rampant...after all, narcotics produces more cash than any commercial businesses in the world combined. One reformed druggie today will yield 10 more druggies tommorrow.
All I can say is, once in a blue moon, the government will try to make a statement by blowing the whole up, enforcing the death penalty and as a result, promotion of their landmark in the world.
This girl, I believe, will have to face the music for what she has done...on the hand, there has been much debate on whether the death penalty will be enforced due to Political Expediency...whatever that is..

| The laws over there suck! I understand about that girl living there for 5 years and all but, WHY THE DEATH PENALTY????????? It just doesn't make sense! This is the second place I kinow of that does this to drug consumers/traffickers/etc. (Malaysia also does it!)!!! I always wanted to know WHY does this law exist??? People on TA from those regions SPEAK UP! I don't care if I get flamed for this ESPECIALLY since this women's from Germany, where they don't have those kind of laws! The Singaporeans should have the common sense to THINK about where she's from and about the values of human life! Is it like this in ALL of Asia??? If so, WHY? What made whoever made these laws up decide that the Death Penalty is the BEST solution? Is it some kind of beliefs that make things like this happen? Because I'd like to know. Things like this get me angry and the people who suffer these consequences don't deserve to die! Who else agrees with me? Who doesn't? Why? LET ME KNOW!!!!!!!! |

| I saw a movie like this called "Return to Paradise". It was about 3 men going to Malaysia and consuming "Hashish" and getting caught with FOUR GRAMS over the legal limit (100 grams is the limit so, they had 104 grams). If anyone remembers this movie, you KNOW what I'm talking about... The gov't laws over there just doesn't make sense! One man was in prison for 3 years, JUST to get hanged later on! WHAT A WORLD..... |

Jail.. maybe!... DEATH???... that's absolutely disgusting! I thinked they are F***ED over there. I can understand the death penalty for murder, but for trafficing?.. I think that is the most sickeing thing to do.
