so.. in the book.. debra knows about dexter and protects him.
I have a feeling that she's going to put two and two together in the 5th season and figure it out. trinity WAS IN the homicide department the day before talking to dexter, then dexters wife is murdered, trinit's family know what he looks like, etc.. people will start suspecting a connection, and then debra will come to his aid and help him get out of it. |

good theory except I suspect it wasn't trinity that killed Rita. Trinity was way too obsessive compulsive to have broken his rituals.
And why wouldn't he have told dexter on his deathbed? he would have enjoyed his reaction
I know that theory is a little out there but it sets up an excellent revenge plot.
possible suspects:
deb (lol)
quinn |

the only thing that leads me to believe it wasn't trinity was how the baby was placed in the pool of blood, just like dexter was. that's definitely not a coincidence. |

As someone pointed out, he did kill Kyle Butler - he was starting to go a tad loose-cannon at the end of the season and was starting to break his "ritual" a little bit.
Also - he had recently started his cycle in Miami. He had kidnapped the boy that ended up getting away - that starts the cycle. His next kill in the cycle is the bath-tub murder of the mother, which Rita mostly fits.
I don't see any motivation for Deb or Quinn to do this, Quinn may be a shady cop (stealing money) has a beef with Dex, and I hate his character - but I don't see him being a killer.
I think it was Trinity, and it's going to lead to a -show of next season of them finding out Dexter was attached to the case (or atleast someone - Deb?), and the next season will be Deb trying to protect Dexter, Quinn trying to nail Dexter, and playing off of those tensions.
I wouldn't be surprised if Dexter does even less killing next season than this season. Chances are with Quinn ending up dead. |

after your twitter spoiler, once he did away with Arthur and it started winding down, I went "ok Evan just made up..phew" and then bang. |

maybe what will happen from this is Dexter actually becoming more of a killer than he ever was before. vengeance will be his motivation. i want him to kill every last criminal in miami.
i feel bad because all this was Dexter's fault for letting Trinity get away with so much. he also let his "humanness" get in way of achieving his goals. this season Dexter lost the plot completely. killing an innocent guy and letting having this crazy mess happen. almost made him seem like such a loser. dexter from seasons before would always be the one outsmarting everybody. particularly last season with the skinner. how bad is it when debra is the smart one in the family figuring out so much about the Trinity killer on her own.
and ditto on the stupid waiting for next season. ! |

| ^^ I agree nothing ruined the season more for me than Dexters new found sloppyness |

I tried to reason away his sloppiness of "Maybe just to keep the pace of the show faster, they are not showing every bit of precaution he's taking" (or something).
But he was really, really sloppy this year. In previous seasons, he was so methodical about how he handled everything that you could beleive he was getting away with it.
This season, so much is piling up in the "sloppy" category, I'm having a hard time believing he'll be getting away with much of anything.
The main thing I have an issue with, is how involved he got with the family - I can't see how this will not come back to haunt him next season.
Wont the family be wondering "Where the hell did Kyle bolt to while the swat team charged in?" - and possibly bring it up during questioning? Then "Oh, we had a recent murder by the name of Kyle Butler..."
Then the fact that Dexter had such extensive disappearing acts from work to "Go see Rita", and from Rita to "work late" - the fact that no one bothered to check in with the other was annoying.
The last few episodes were good, but quite a bit in this season also bothered me. I'll still watch it next season, but it's losing a bit of the appeal that it used to have. |
