come on now...your mother didn't raise no quitter.....if you start something you gotta see it through to the end. :D
good for you for trying....the best thing I can suggest is have something to replace the cigarette when you are out with your friends....whether its to chew on a straw or suck on a candy...just have something that will occupy your mouth....and yes....you can think dirty. :D |

well start by limiting urself only when u drink. stopping cold turkey is freaking hard.
if u see that you are drinking more and more... well now we got an issue |

RJ's advice: You need associative behavior conditioning.
You associate the friends/drinking with the behavior of smoking (thus the reason why you don't do it when you're not around friends/drinking).
You need to change the association - and that will take time. Change the association and you won't crave the smoke anymore.
3 Steps to Associative Behavior Conditioning
1) DECIDE - Make a disciplined decision to NOT smoke (don't want to quit, NEED to quit).
2) ALTERNATIVE - Find a compelling alternative to smoking. Since smoking is a chemical and behavioral issue you will need to find alternatives for both (patch, inhaler, gum for the chemical. delay, distract, deep breathing techniques for behavioral).
3) LEVERAGE - Get leverage - involve your friends in keeping you from smoking. Tell everybody you know you are trying to quit, engage them to assist you.
Obviously drinking is going to make things more difficult simply because the effect alcohol has on one's ability to make sound decisions (not to mention the synergistic effect nicotine and alcohol have on the brain/body).
Since it will take time to change the associations (months perhaps) - you may want to break down the conditioning into parts - friends & drinking. Try not to engage in drinking while around friends and learn not to smoke when around friends. Once you've mastered that (consistently, fully) you can venture into the cocktail/friend combo - just again realize that alcohol is going to impair your judgment. |

I was able to quit smoking because, at one of my first parties i smoked so many damn cigs that i burned my mouth and my throught. So after that i couldnt smoke for almost a week. I was going through withdrawls and cravings.. specialy around dinner time and all that. But half way thought that week, i decided that i will be strong and kick the habit for good And i did. I didnt touch a cigarette for almost 6 months after that. Now i can enjoy a smoke or 2 with a drink or when im on vacation, but i never let it get to an addiction stage. |

I went to a medical conference thing a while ago and saw a healthy lung. Right beside it in a glass jar, was a lung of a 10 year smoker. It was pretty nasty.

Once you quit you will feel so much better... Enjoying a smoke free life is amazing. No cravings, no smell, no need to freeze you ass outside in the winter, you feel better.
I love smoking but i just made the choice to stop.
You need to do the same.
Maybe start doing some cardio (not dancing in a club). That way it will give you an actual reason to not smoke. |

Hah! This is the most proven method to quit imo. :P
Seriously though, I say if it were me I'd just find something to do (not too hazardous or crazy) other than smoking, chewing gum, not thinking about it, but that's just me. I think I could do it cold turkey. |
