The Radical SR3 ProSport currently holds the record I think...something around 6:30.
in a couple months, I'll have my own time around the ring to post for you bitches :) |
Just looked it up, Porsche 956 with Derek Bell did a 6:26 during a 1000km race in 1983.
The fastest F1 lap was in 1975, Clay Regazzoni in 7:06.
However both of those were only the Nordschlife and not the GP circuit as well. So actually, Clay's time plus an extra minute for the GP circuit (in 1975 there was a section of the Nordschliefe along the current GP front straight, a hairpin and a run back so say that takes 20 seconds) and Heidfeld wasn't that far off the pace of a 70's F1 car.
Although that Radical would be the fastest road legal car |

| That would be crazy in one of the new V8 Radicals. I would be worried about it catching air and bottoming out. Some of the crests have really weird chamber to them that makes cars land funky if you leave the ground, and it doesn't help any that a couple of them are in really fast sections of the track. A car that light and powerful would be a beast to handle. It would be absolutely thrilling though. |

I read somewhere that the Nordschleiffe lap record is by (the late) Stefan Bellof on one of those early 80s sport prototypes cars. Something like 6:11 or 6:13

I was talking about that hideous new front wing, not the whole car. |

I like the wing, we'll see if it catches on |

Agreed, it's Bell in the Porsche.
Radical SR8 holds the "road car" record now I think. Grabbed it back from a Radical SR3 ProSport and before that it was a Dutch Donkevoort Lotus 7 style thing that had it.
I'm planning a trip to the 'Ring this summer. I will be damn careful over Flugplatz and into Adenauer since that's where I used to shunt it in GT4 :D |

Valencia street race for 2008
10 May 2007
The Spanish city of Valencia is set to host a round of the FIA Formula One World Championship next year. The race, to be known as the European Grand Prix, will be held on a newly-constructed harbour-side street circuit.
A seven-year agreement was announced on Thursday in a press conference attended by Formula One Management CEO Bernie Ecclestone, Valencian government's President Francisco Camps and Valencia's mayor Rita Barbera. The deal is conditional on Camps winning local elections next month.
The news means Spain is due to become home to two rounds of the world championship for the foreseeable future. Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya stages the 2007 Spanish Grand Prix this weekend.
Valencia’s Mediterranean backdrop will provide a spectacular setting for the new track. The city, currently hosting the America’s Cup sailing event, is no stranger to Formula One racing. The nearby Ricardo Tormo track is a regular testing venue and Valencia has been the location for numerous car launches.
