In his memoir, Eshbach quotes L. Ron Hubbard as telling him in 1949, "I’d like to start a religion. That’s where the money is." He is not the only science fiction fan to allege having heard Hubbard make similar remarks.
Who knows if it's real or not. I didn't hear Hubbard say it. It certainly would not surprise me though - Hubbard was a smart guy and he was absolutely right.
Here, Jesus, I made this for you. I'll be sure to brandish it everywhere so that people know you were tortured to death just like millions of other people in the history of the world.
