I am trying to determine whether this is the good sort of crying or the bad sort. |

There's absolutely, 100%, nothing vintage about any current trance. :o |
Sure, the magic and surprise of the genre has passed already... Sure, there's good tracks floating around, plenty that I still enjoy. But, the genre has settled into redundancy, as with most popularized music. Patterns.. progressions... formulas for sequencing.. it's all just playing over and over again with tweaks on the original sound.
Like the days of Motown, the magic is gone... i don't hear anything in trance anymore than surprises me.. that instills any sense of adventure or emotion like it did when i first got into it in it's peak in 99/2000.
That's MY idea of vintage... ;) |

They all sound pretty dull and samey to me. If anything has been original and refreshing in recent times, it would be vibrasphere. |
Couldnt have said it better. Dont get me wrong I love trance but it just isnt dynamic enough for me like it used to be when i was new to it. Lately for me its all about the Progressive/ ProgPsy. Its everything Trance ever was to me without all the cheese. |

Vibrasphere is my arse refreshing, dull, typical over-played (and unimaginative i would add, since psy was 1000000 better in the 90s)) psy on a slower bit with no substance of any kind. |
I can say almost the exact same about the Techy/Minimal garbage that alot of people are listening to nowdays. |

this is why you mix it up with other genres ;)
i love progpsy atm too, also a bit of proghouse, techno, deep trance, some hard dance.. maybe even breaks if i'm in the mood. a little bit of uplifting trance used at the right moment can add all the dynamics you need :) |

| I personally haven't heard any tracks yet (in 2007) which gave me hope again, but I definately want to wait for the new Mirco de Govia album. I'm curious to see how the tracks will come out. |
