Old but amazing....Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Just watched it the other day.

Has anyone seen Where the Buffalo Roam? Apparently it's supposed to be better than Fear and Loathing.

Fantastic film, exactly the type of movie I was looking for.

Tropic Thunder Review (sneak preview):

I was lucky enough to score a sneak preview ticket to see this movie last night, from an old acquaintance. Funny enough that I had to make sure it was for free, because I just was not willing to pay to see a Ben Stiller movie.

Title: Tropic Thunder
Type: Comedy
Cast: Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr, Jay Baruchel, Brandon T. Jackson, and even Nick Nolte.

Now going into this movie, my expectations were very low, considering I do not like Stiller, Black or Downey Jr, but hey it was free!

The story follows four Hollywood actors who are making a war epic, with the main characters being actors them selves. The movie begins with a few fake commercials with each of the actors hocking their wares or current movie projects. The commercials were hilarious, especially the one for 'Booty Juice' by a rapper played by Brandon Jackson (great actor).

After the intros are done, we move to a Vietnamese jungle, which is the setting for most of the movie. The thing that jumped out me most was actually how amazing the colours looked, and how sharp the picture was. Flying through the jungle was awe inspiring, and made you feel like you were part of the set.

Since this was a spoof of a war epic, there were actually a lot of stunts and explosions. Simply the best special effects I have seen in a comedy ever. Some of the stunts and explosions were better than in most of today's action movies, because they actually decided to use real explosives and real choppers instead of using CG for everything. Very nice touch. Having a crazed army obsessed pyrotechnics director (in the movie) was just right, and he played his archetype very well.

By laughing so hard at the beginning, I thought it was going to be all done hill from there. But, I was pleasantly surprised as Stiller actually created full enough characters to allow for more than one dimensional jokes, who developed over the course of the movie. They used some standard jokes: vein stars, white guys pretending to be black, confident movie studio jocks, and over acting. The combination of all these characters, and some twists actually made for decent watching.

The pace was pretty good, because it did not seem to drag on that much. The only parts that did drag were the parts where Stiller (main character, sort of) was alone on screen, but how much can you expect from the guy? The star of the movie, and maybe Hollywood's most gifted actor is Jay Baruchel, who played a nerdy but confident young actor looking up to his star idols. After his performance in Million Dollar Baby, and his previous work on Popular Mechanics for Kids, this guy needs more serious roles. He helped move the story and actually interject some story development and some fun jokes.

Lots of stars in this one, and they all did a good job. Over all I would recommend the movie. If you are one of those people who pays to see movies in theaters, then go see this, as the big screen really magnified the cinematography. If you usually wait for DVD, then do so, as Stiller's poor acting is always annoying if you have paid for it.

I'm glad your review was good. I was actually really looking forward to seeing this. Robert Downy Jr. playing a black guy alone was worth seeing it IMO. I'm very picky over which movies I spend money on in the theatre vs. which ones I wait to rent however. If I'm going to spend a ton of money at the theatre, I want to really make sure the movie is worth the big screen. If you say the special effects were top notch though, perhaps I will go to the theatre, b/c originally I was going to way to rent this.

What time did you get there? A few of my friends went but couldn't get in so they were given free tickets to watch wall-e as well as for another screening of tropic thunder in 2 weeks time.

Got there around 8, and there was already a pretty big line up. We had a few friends who also could not get in, and when we heard what they were offered, we figured next time will show up late purposely to get the better deal.:thepirate
