hey i'm still standing bitches
oh yea and p.s. what a perfectly good waste of two of worlds top 5 dj's at a venue that is a joke. i have totally lost all respect for the lizard lounge and it's gonna take nothing short of paul van dyk or carl cox to get me back to that place again.
edit: it is beyond me why something can't be worked out to have events like this at karma or blue or at least somewhere respectable. |

Please don't blame this on Lizard Lounge. This is the responsibility of the promoter to have back up plans or plan better for this. I thank Full Access for bringing in what was a great line up on Saturday. But, some things could have been done differently. My only regret is spending the $40 for VIP. That got me nothing. Hopefully we all learn from our mistakes. |

OMG
You Guys!
Best Night Evah!
Don't know what I was bitching about because everything turned out to be okay anyways!
Jeremy Word was just gettin' started, he was doing a great job. DJ Dan.....Amazing. What more can I say?
ARMIN?!!! OMG I think I'm still having aftershock orgasms. AMAZING SET! I can't even think of all the songs he played. Maybe because even though it's 1pm, I'm still pretty much under the influence.
Lets see...not in order, just what I can remember right now,
Communication
Sail - (dramatic crier)
Shivers
Love You More - (he turned down the music for everyone to sing along like one big happy family.)
The Killers Can you Read My Mind? Dave Dresden mix (beautiful!)
Everything is Beautiful - (and that it was, he did this song perfect)
Smack my Bitch Up - (Holy ola guys...amazing)
needs to feel (whipenburg rmx)
Bedrock - Heaven Scent
Anyone care to add to the list?
Even after 4, he played for another 45 minutes after closing time. He was feeling the crowd and this crowd was not going home anytime soon.
I got to meet so many of your guys! So glad to see yas! Even though I mainly hung out in the VIP, hanging off the balcony....I figured it was time to go downstairs and wrestle the crowd to the stage.
Got to the stage, hung out there for a while, then I gave Armin a rose. He took it and placed it up on his tables for everyone to see. As if it stopped there. The music died down for a second, and he looked straight at me and kind of gave an "do I know you?" look. I yelled out that I had his tattoo, and his face lit up. He motioned for me to come up to see him. After spending 5 minutes wrestling the damn body guard, I was able to get up there. I gave him a kiss, told him I loved him, and thanks for the music for empowering many lives. He loves the tattoo, he said it was beautiful and he was very flattered. He signed it. He also laughed at my shirt and thought it was cute *S* (for those not there, it says "Armin's Vriendin" which is girlfriend in Dutch.) I didn't find anything to laugh at....dammit, If I say I'm his girlfriend, he better accept it. LOL
After our meeting, I went back upstairs and hung off the balcony again. He saw me up there and kept pointing at me and waving. he watched me sing along and would smile.
Ahhh....can anyone say Cloud 9?
A friend of mine took pics for me and video clips. I'll see him someday soon and get those from him and post them.
Well, I've had about 1 hour of sleep...ah well. I guess I need to eat something.
IF anyone found a RAZOR phone on the bottom dance floor....please let me know. *S* yes, I've lost my phone....but it was worth it. *wink* |

Well I agree that the vast majority of blame goes to the promoters, but there is still a substaintal amount of blame that goes to the lizard lounge for this. In the business world, you are fully responsible for those who are working for you, and after the several botched events there in the past year and a half, it's is seriously poor business for the powers that be at the lizard lounge to continue to have promotors and others who run these shows still in place after they have completely ruined so many events in the past. Just to name a few, benny on new years, total nightmare, multiple top name djs have had thier sets cut way short because they place had emptied out (due to poor timeslotting and promotion) and of course last nights debacle. There are so many very intelligent, creative, hard working promoters out there these days, there is no excuse for employing a promoter that draws 9 people for the eddie halliwell on 4th of July, or created that total debacle like last night. I think I caught maybe 4 tracks from DJ Dan, and maybe 3 from AvB. It was that bad. I think most people would agree that was not worth the $88 I payed for two tickets. Between my friends, and the other people I talked to during and after the show, it appears this may have been the straw that broke the camels back, and many will not be back in the future. Yes the promoters may have made a lot of money last night by overselling the show, but any competent business person should realize that by making so many people unhappy and angry last night, the potential losses for upcoming shows will likely be much greater.
On top of this, I have been on the dallas club scene for around 5 years, in addtion to being good friends with several top promoters in dallas, I am also close to several owners of bars, clubs, and lounges here in Dallas. In the past and even recent past I have spent large amounts of money on bottle service, table reservations, and VIP at very wide range of nightlife places in Dallas. Me and my friends have been treated with the utmost respect at everyplace we go to in Dallas from obar to wish to clear to eden to a multitude of other top dallas nightlife spots from the past and present. Me and my friends are very generous, respectful, and never cause any problems for anyone. However on multiple occasions at the lizard lounge during a headliner show, we have been treated extremely poorly, disrespectfully, and even threatened by promotors and others who run these shows at the lizard lounge, for absolutely no good reason. We never did anything illegal, no fighting, no being shady, absolutely nothing out of line, but just because they may not have known who we were, or assumed we didn't have money because we didn't get super dressed up just to go to the lounge, that we were nobodies they could push us around, talk to us, and threaten us for no good reason. If one of you owned the lizard lounge is this how you would want you staff treating anyone, especially people who are regulars for big shows and routinely pay huge bar tabs. If I ever knew one of my employees was treating a valuable customer poorly, I wouldn't be able to fire him fast enough.
Now I do have a great deal of respect for the lizard lounge because they have been around so long, and have always made an effort to be one of the leading EDM venues in Dallas. But the lizard lounge is just too old, too small, doesnt have a great layout, and just doesn't have a good enough sound system or lights. I think almost everyone these days is like well I guess im gonna have to go to the lizard lounge if I wanna see my favorite dj, sigh... The only worse place to have and event has been at seven, the armin and digweed shows there were nightmares. Seven was great place to go to on a normal night for years, but trying to have Digweed or Armin play there was absolutely comical. If whoever was in charge of those shows didn't get fired on the spot they must have been sleeping with someone in a very powerful postion.
It just totally escapes me that with the growing EDM scene in Dallas that these shows could be moved to much better venues like outdoors(although not cancelled by mild 50degree weather) blue or karma or even somewhere like Cowboys in Arlington where you could easily fit all the people you could ever want inside comfortably. Or you would think at least someone build a new club that could cater to the EDM scene here as well as the out of town headliners.
I hate to write a post like this because I am usually a very positive person and very understanding of peoples mistakes. I am writing this not to release some of my own anger about last night and other shows, because as much as I like EDM and enjoy hearing top dj's, I have seen so many shows in my life that a handful of very poorly ran shows and disrrespect from employees is not really all that big of deal to me in my scheme of life. But what really uspets me is that so many people look forward to these shows for months, pay top dollar ticket prices, many travel hundreds of miles, take off work, miss school or make other sacrificies to see their heroes, and have misserable expreriences. Just ask sharper about seven, any one who went to bennasi on new years, anyone who was there last night, or countless othere people who had similiar experiences at other shows at the lounge or seven.
As for me I have been to see prety much every headliner in Dallas the past two years, and nothing short of paul van dyk, carl cox, or maybe even tiesto will have me setting foot inside the lounge or the new seven (2505 or whatever) for the foreseeable future. |

Interesting review of last nights events..of course my 7 bottle service at Vicci last night could not have compared to the show at LL but im also at a loss as to why "MW17cc" wrote a very convincing review as well. - So was the Show Good ..or Not??..maybe some had more fun than others..* smiles at Sharper * - Like i said before, i would have gone if i hadnt have to cater to my friends B-day...and wot kinda friend would i be if i bailed on his B-day :( - Still da outcome as it may have been i would have tried to make the best of it, theres always an after party where you can pick up ur spirits. Hopefully someone can post sum pics and maybe a video for those of us who Just Could Not Make it..:( |

If the issues with headliner shows has happened frequently and you are spending the type of cash that you say you are, you need to talk to Leo. He will listen.
As for where the 'blame' lies, it really does rest on the promoter much more than the club. If you have an outdoor venue or event, there should always be a contingency clause in the contract with both the host and the entertainer. Legalities allow such language in that there is a fair assumption on all parties that 'acts of God' may manipulate the parameters of said contract. If 'promoter' comes to LL mgt and says they want to have an outdoor show and needs to have the area designated prepared but makes no mention of either having sheltered facilities to accomodate maximum forcasted attendance OR arrangements have not been made to defer to an alternate venue, LL is not responsible for ensuring anything other than that date is booked. |

hey guys ill type my review up as soon as i get home in Katy. I'm leaving FTW right now
Steve, Matt, Cory: this is the song that Armin threw down last night that i was going crazy over trying to figure out the ID:

As someone who is a promoter and a former venue owner, the blame for moving it inside lies 100% on the promoter and the artist's management. The Lizard Lounge has no say, other than to not host the event, and no bar owner in their right mind is going to cancel two days before it. The crowd was supposed to be "controlled" per the words of Full Access, and it wasn't.
While I was sorely dissapointed in the move inside, I can't say I don't blame them one bit. While it was cold, everyone here has forgotten that there is a large amount of setup that has to be done with an outside show that takes place the day before. It's kind of hard to set up outside when there are three tornado's touching down......
It's a catch 22. |
