Overall a great nite!! I really enjoyed myself except for the thousands of people that surrounded me :whip:
This was my first time seeing PVD and i wasnt totally impressed but still had a nice time! Dirty i really enjoyed your set....good stuff man. Oh and what can i say about Taj your set was amazing as always....I love some of the tracks you played. Some of my favorites of the nite that Taj played were...Sonic Division & Spyschool - Painting the Silence (EVERWAKE REMIX!!!), AVB - Communication, Super 8 & Dj Tab - Needs To Feel :eyes: etc....
Finally, It was nice seeing all the TA's having a great time. I like the idea of meeting up b4 hand. It starts the nite off nice. Well Hope to see everyone next weekend.

Ten15 was pretty darn packed, that's for sure. But from what I heard (I could have heard wrong) they actually did close the doors and basically sold out something I have never seen Ten15 do. But, I do believe I have seen Ten15 more packed overall though. One thing that was pretty nice though is that Ten15 didn't have to channel the main room sound into other rooms for crowd overflow. All the rooms kept it's lineup all night as far as I can and each of the smaller rooms had its own good sized crowd.
With PvD's set, there's two ways I can look at this.
First: The critical type. I though Paul van Dyk played stellar tracks overall, but thought the structure of his set was a bit messy. He started of with prog trance and within a few tracks was bangin real hard, reminding me of a lot of his older Ten15 sets which I LOVED....but then he drop down to some electro type stuff, get a bit melodic, and then get real hard again. If I downloaded the set off of a site, I'd probably give it just an OK review. I can also say that no one can call me crazy anymore with his rough transitions. He once again had quite a few of them (mainly at the beginning of his set) this time around but he didn't seem to put in a lot of effects which sorta masked it last time. Some other peeps def noticed the rough transitions - a few cringes. :-p
The second type: The who cares let's just party and bring a good vibe type. One thing that's obvious about Paul van Dyk these days is that he's 10000000% more charasmatic than he as just a few years ago. He was like the Digweed of trance. Just focused on the music, maybe gives a few fist pumps or guitar rifts and a couple smiles during his whole set. That's it, seriously. But D00D the last few times I've seen him he has just been completely insane in the booth. Jumping, spinning, guitaring, dancing (note: PvD does what I call the PvD dance...it is simply the most silly dance I have EVER seen where just like flaps his arms around all weird...hard to describe but I always go "WTF was that!?" when I see him do it, lol). And doing this his ENTIRE set, getting into each and every track. And the energy you see come out of him really rubs off into the crowd and into the night. It also helps other DJs like Armin, Ferry, etc...when you see them all having a good time, it really does make your night better even if the set isn't top notch. I'll go ahead and say it. Although his sets the last few times I've seen him live aren't on par with his older SF sets, I am really starting to like the current PvD and his attitude. And I think he's just in a little slump right now, kinda like Ferry was in 2002 or so. I am not worried about him going downhill forever like some of our favorite past DJs like Oakey and Tiesto have...mainly because unlike them he hasn't changed his style overall. He plays the same style for the most part, just the structure isn't there right now. Anyhow, point is I'd rather been in an environment with an energetic DJ who gives the whole crowd a positive vibe than a DJ who might play a perfect set but no energy comes out of him personally.
Now my question is...what has happened to make PvD do a 180 with his personality behind the decks? Is he just having more fun these days? Was he told to dance (not literally) in order to improve his image? Or something else? I don't think he was told to dance. When you see him turn around seeing the excitement on his face, when you see him after his gig off to the side and he's still dancing to his own track even though the crowd can't even see him more....when you see peeps from his agency start to freak out because he won't stop playing and they have to rush out of the club to take off for Coachella...no peeps, that's not fake.
Overall, I do think it was a great night. Good fun, good times....only to be followed by the nightmarish scene of a huge fire on the highway and coming hom to see that the whole bay area's commute is gonne be fizzzuuuckked for awhile. |

I had such a wonderful time this Saturday.
I am so glad a lot of us were able to get together at Chevy's. It was nice to talk to people there.
The vibe at the place was awesome!
Dirty's set was really cool and helped start the party.
I enjoyed PVD's set. I liked that he was jumping and moving around. I always like it when DJs do that.
Taj, you were playing some great songs!
Thank you for everything Taj!!
I am going to miss you all over the Summer!
You are all very welcoming! You're all awesome!
I will put the link for the pictures soon.
Let me know if and when any of you come down to L.A. |

For one of the first times Ill have to agree with some of what DaveT is saying...
Kicking off the weekend with D:Jays party (which I thought I would mention it is now 2:17 and its still going on) was nuts. I dropped back in Sunday morning with some TA's but cut out again around 9:45AM. Woke up at 3 in the afternoon and just chilled.
For me...1015 was absolutely packed. I can remember there have been times where 1015 has sold out. From what people who were coming in were telling me, The clubs like was all the way down the side of the building, down by the cheveron gas station. One of the only times I seen 1015 shut down the other rooms was way back for Paul Oakenfold. Every room played Oakenfold. Its good to see that the other rooms kept their sound and Djs playing throughout the evening. I heard Alibi had a good time too downstairs.
Its been a while since I seen a turnout like the one I saw on Saturday.
I had 4 of my crew from Dreaming in digital shooting photos, and video for most of the night at diffrent angles. Combined with Rizens photos and video with my guys and mine, There has to be around 4,000 or so photos. Im estimating 4+ hours of video too. I derno, I had to stop and upload several times to my lappy, memory cards filled up fast.
My Review:
Plenty of people.
I did not recognize half of the people that showed up in the crowd saturday. Lots of new faces. and something I havent seen in a while...couples.
PvD's renewed energy.
I too liked seeing him enjoying himself. I wish all Djs locally and abroad utilized the booth more. Speaking from experience, theres plenty of room in there to move around and do what you want. To name a few, I see interaction betweeen Djs and the audience with Djs like Thrillseekers and Above & Beyond.
The audience absolutely love Djs who reach out to them. This Paul is someone we havent seen, He actually does more than past events with him and its a trip seeing him dance and flail around. Like Dave says, the PVD Dance. Hes not as focused as he was before, simply on the music. I personally like seeing him move his fingers as he makes this goofy face out to the crowd in sync to the beat. Made it alot of fun for everyone.
Pvds live mixing skills
I thought this was interesting. He had 2 midi controlled keyboards out, and played live to the crowd. Something I have been wanting to do myself but have not perfected my setup for this yet.
He also played a couple recognizable hip hop tracks that he remixed. Im not big on hip hop, but I did recognize the Justin Timberlake track he played. The other Ive heard on the radio, just dont know the title. Suprisingly, they sounded alright.
Lighting, Confetti Cannons, Sound and Cryo
2 words. Holy . A total of prolly hitting the cryo like 12 times at different points in the night? Gat Damn! I like how Marie and Dan shot off the confetti cannons too.
A great night Saturday. Looking forward to seeing PvD again when he comes back out. Only one thing though, I do hope to hear him play more Trance next time around, including some of his own Productions and classics that made PvD who he is.
P.S. Rizen sorry I could not make the dinner, some things came up and to everyone who attended I'll be in attendance next time around. Thank you for the invite. |

Okay guys here is my review of this night. I got to the club at 10:40pm and I knew that this was a big no no specially for a PVD night at 1015. My original plan was to get there at 9:30pm but shyt happens. Anyhow got there and there was a HUGE Line but on the left side of the building so I thought wow poor people with no tickets, they wont be getting in. Walk up to the door and ask and they pointed at that line.. So I assumed they meant the short line on next to the street, nope they meant the HUGE line! The short line was for VIP tickets! Sucks Sucks Sucks! So okay I go and stand on line for a while, then started to panic when I realize that it was already 12am and the line was not even moving. My friend decided to go ask one of the security people if we could upgrade to VIP, they said yes but $60 extra.. Well we did upgrade but the line was a bit longer took me 45minutes or so, was in the club by 12:50am. I am so glad I got the upgrade the VIP was not as crowded as other times and there was plenty of dance space.
The main room was packed like crazy and everyone was dancing, jumping, screaming and having a great time. It was great to see so many happy people and most with a great attitude. Mr. Paul Van Dyk was playing a great set, but like Dave said it was a bit all over the place, he would built up into a beautiful melodic set and all the sudden just snap out of it and played some electro. It was also soooo great to hear him played FKN – Why (Aly and Fila) it was soooo beautiful. I had a huge smile on my face jumping up and down like a maniac. He also played that track by Nelly Furtano - Say it right not sure how I feel about this one… it did not fit into his set but ohwell. Overall had a great time watching PVD jump, dance, put his hands in the air and interact with the crowd. I remember seen him a while back been in the front and he would not interact with the people or even shake their hands, this time Mr. Van Dyk was very happy and excited, he has been like this now for the past 3 times I have seen him.. I am not sure if PVD played this or what but the last track was by Infected Mushroom.. It was played completely making me think that it was a in-between track to remove the equipment and get Taj set up..
Anyway It was very fun night but to my surprise PVD had just done a warm up set for Taj. Oh wow Taj what can I say about your set it was pure melodic and hard pounding trance! I was still dancing until the last track was played “with out you near”. I am usually all tired by this time but wow man you completely brought down the house. Love how you drop AVB – Communication P3 and so many other great tracks.. I am the worst person to ID tracks but man I just wished that you had recorded this set, in my book you currently have the best set this year. I like your style overall but man this past Saturday your consistent trance selection and energy made your set amazing . I hope to hear more similar track selection from you in the future man.. OH yes and love the way that the KRYO was used .. at one point the room was completely covered for over a minute it was magical when they flashed the lights too it seemed like it was snowing, pure magical. much keep up the good work.
Oh yes Blurr I saw your videos .. great job it was nice seen all the past parties and getting us ready for K&A and Ronski Speed.
Anyway I will post my videos/pictures when I get home later… |

This was probably the most enjopyable PVD nights we've experienced at 1015. He was polite to us & patient since the first time we tried to take a picture with him our camera wasn't working. He then walked away & we got it working & we asked him to take another & he did it, even while everyone was telling him its time to go.
We caught the last hour of PVD's set and it was probably the most enjoyable last hour of his we heard in awhile, it got us warmed up for Taj's thank God, cause we needed it with the pumping relentless trance Taj played, whoa!
Damn Taj you worked us, thanks for keeping us in shape. I barely had time to take a breath & evertime we had to pee we would try to in between mixes & we would get into the bathroom & realized the next track you were mixing in was one we had to dance to so without peeing we run back out to dance, I know we're strange ;-) That's our way of saying how much we loved your set. You played an outstanding set, perfect mixing and excellent selection of tracks, wish it would've been recorded :-(
It was also great to see everyone as always, also it was nice talking with some of you at the dinner, good idea to do that. Wish we coulda went to the after party, sure you all had a great time!:tongue3 :D |

| crazy night, it took me over 20 min to find parking and in the process i saw the line to the club stretch around 2 sides of the block as people continued to file into the back of it! when i got in i hadn't noticed the time, but i guess pvd was already on. the front room and downstairs were filled and the main room of course packed. i didn't pay too much attention to pvd's mixing with everything else goin on around, but i liked his tl for the most part even if it was a bit random. some of those tracks had some sweet basslines, like that remix of placebo he dropped. i have to agree with everyone else that his interaction is what made his performance different this time. he was bouncing around the entire time feeding off the crowd and his entourage on the right. maria's slick work with the club effects definitely played into the awesome vibe. i got a few chances to check out alibi downstairs and ismael was rippin it with the psy. can't wait to hear some of those same beats in the main room with j00f! taj's set was fire too, he somehow manages to elevate the enegy in the main room even on a crazy night like pvd and had me goin until sun up! i was surprised to step out of 1015 to a bright daylight sky, lol it's been a while... |

Haha, thats my strategy too whenever I'm really into a set. The bathroom breaks come in between songs, because its hard to hold it when you are jumping up and down.
To the last point, Taj do you have the ability of recording your sets? Seriously, my rearview mirror would be a gonner if I had some of your live sets on CDs, due to extreme fist pumping. |

I had a great time at PVD. The crowd didn’t seem as rude or overbearing as it has in the past @ PVD shows. I loved how 1015 used confetti in conjunction with the kyro blasts. I really enjoyed the proggy side of PVD, although I wish he played less electro and more trance. Paul definitely seemed to be enjoying himself, dancing (pvd dance :P), smiling at people, making quick chat with people around him. He seemed to be full of energy.
TAJ tore up the dance floor after pvd!! Awesome closing set! 1015 went off hard till the crack of daylight.
I took a few breaks from the mainroom to check out Alibi downstairs. Ismael was rocking the crique lounge!! I wish I could have been in both rooms at once. :P
Thank you for the CD btw.
I took about 2 gigs of videos and pics. Nothing really came out all that great. I think its time to buy a new camera.
+1 on meeting for dinner. It was nice to meet new faces, and chat with TAs. We should do stuff like that more often. |
