1015 nights with PVD have always drawn extra large crowds. Ive witnessed many performances with him in the house, and he has never let me down.

Not only has Paul refined his sound, but his mixing skills are LIVE. Everything you see him do with the laptops, etc is all pretty much live.

Last time he was here, He totally blew me away with what he was doing... dropping and editing, looping and cutting things while he was in the booth. I believe he was using Abelton 6.1 that night too.

I've personally had a renewed respect for PVD over the last few years. He still remains to me someone who I highly respect, as a Dj and Producer. Everyone who comes out for his nights at 1015 are never dissapointed.

Courtesy DaveT on this one. When Paul got off the decks last time he was here, I got to speak with him breifly. Honestly he said he liked my shirt. I was wearing a PVD shirt of course. Dave snapped the photo you see at the end of the video. Heres a video clip of him and the Cryo blast you can expect.

NO doubt he does a lot more loops and effects, but I just feel that he uses them in some cases to cover up rather lazy transitions. Like "let me start the next track and add this effect and that effect and people think it will sound like the best transition ever!!!"

And he played a lot of tracks he's been playing for at least a couple years...and I'm not talking about his own tracks...but others...and tracks I do like (eg. Josh Gabriel - Alive), but he has indeed been playing them over and over again to death. Kinda reminds me of the phase Ferry went through in like 2002-first half of 2003 where he sorely needed to update his record box.

well I was unaware of the residency so I was wrong that avb comes here more than pvd. either way though pvd has been boring me. in fact trance has been boring me. its become so cookie cutter over the past couple years. it is unfortunate but it was bound to happen.

You ever see AvB in SF? Cause it's like a whole different world. He BRINGS IT everytime in SF....I've seen him in LA at least 5 times and his best LA set is worse than his worst SF set.

PvD actually used to be the same way. I used to go to LA all the time to see PvD and his SF sets were always better. He's just always player harder and more banging here. His LA sets were always pretty grand but his SF sets were just better more often than not.

I would do it. You can even ask a bunch of LATAs who came up for Armin on July 3rd last year...a Monday night. Just a couple of days after seeing him in LA and being a bit disappointed. It was flat out amazing and many consider it one of the best nights of 2006.

It was nuts. Alain and Syd did an amazing tag team opening set (as I will say over and over again, SF openers to trance acts are generally better openers than the LA openers I've seen. LA openers tend not to progress well most of the time I am down there, IMO.)

Will remember that night forever because it was a whole crowd of true Armin fans and got to see a bunch of peeps in LA that night, too.

Anyhow, not to hijack this thread. PvD used to be the same way. I haven't seen him in LA in quite some time so I don't know if there are any differences between his LA and SF sets these days but I do remember at Monster Massive (where I ended up leaving before he came on) everyone was blown away by him and said he played real hard and real good. I wished I would have stayed after hearing that because I have a feeling it was reminiscent of his old SF sets which Ten15's crowd would get to a point of insanity I have rarely seen. In fact, probably haven't seen since 2003 - a tie between when Ferry played in Feb 2003 and played for 4 1/2 hours when scheduled for 3 after saying he wanted to play since the crowd was so "ing insane" according to him and only stopped at 5:30am because his wife was falling asleep in the booth, and the last time would be Marco V in May 2003 when he was also scheduled for three hours and ended up playing for five and stoppped at 6am.

Sander van Doorn last January at Ten15 brought a glimpse of it when he filled up the room (people migrated from the other rooms) and people were just going bonkers and blown away. If the place was as packed as like Ferry, Marco V, Armin, PvD, etc could make it in the main room at Ten15 it would have certainly been up there with those 2003 nights.

And a bunch of times I've been to Ten15 over recent months have brought glimpses of it back, too, which is awesome. Darude night was amazing, IMO...loved the energy. Kyau-vs-Albert night was a lot of fun after they got the crowd back into it about 30 minutes into their set. Mike Shiver night was also surprising. MIKE brought an energy to the room that even got me going bigtime and wish that type of night could happen again -- he played such a wide range of tracks throughout his set yet the crowd was totally into it....his range of style actually kinda reminds me of SvD although SvD does play a lot more techno in his sets. But the range of the two is just so impressive.

And honestly, I have to attribute the comeback in the energy at Ten15 largely to Taj with his selection of talent, and also to the construction the place has had over the past few years (although I think a lot more needs to be done :p). Bringing in a lot of the best DJ around who certainly deserve a lot more exposure and bigger crowds (MIKE, Darude, etc), and not afraid to take a chance every once in awhile with up and comers (Shiver, Sheridan, etc and he was the first person ever to bring Sander van Doorn to north america).

Taj has done an amazing job, IMO. And I tell this to everyone!

Now only if he'd bring Yoji B to SF. SF needs some Yoji!

Now with PvD, I am really interested to see Dirtyhertz open up for PvD (I imagine he'll open and Taj close?). Now I love Jerry Bonham and love his sets on his own, but often times feel he ends too soft for PvD and the big jump PvD brings is more of a shocker to the crowd. I know Dirtyhertz will prob have to play house (just guessing because EdgarV, PvD's typical opener on the east coast, is awesome at trance but always ends up having to play house when he opens for PvD), but hoping that by the end of his set it's banging pretty good and has the energy high in the room before PvD even enters the place.

Actually i have to say that when PVD comes to 1015 he definitely turns it up a notch. Paul has said to me (when i meet him before the event) that he looks forward to return to 1015 every time he comes as he loves the "intimacy with the crowd, the layout of the room, the DJ booth & how close it is with the people & the way Marie (head of tech dept.) takes care of him."
