I really don't know what to think when it comes to this topic. I was brought up catholic and used to be very religious but I'm more agnostic now. My biggest issue with the existence of God is proof. I need scientific proof, faith alone doesn't cut it for me.

That is my biggest issue too...I require scientific proof before I jump in and believe something.

Santa vs God - discuss

I am a cynic as far as discussing religion goes. It never gets anyone anywehere.

Pretty much with religion as well - very segregated regionally around the globe

but I don't need my weekly "religion dose" to live, lol.

No one said you did....

As far as religion goes, people from the different types are all very avid that there way is the right way, and with so many variations of what happens when you die for example, I don't agree that what everyone religion claims can be possible.

Dont really understand last sentence but i get what ur trying to say.
Thats totally fine. I dont claim my way is THE right way for everybody, it just works for me.
Its kinda like in music: trance works for me, whereas others think its horrible....
I cant say that everyone HAS TO like it;)

If being an atheist works for you then I will never condemn you or tell you you're going to hell. That'd be wrong.
All i am saying is that your initial comment was kinda illogical:toothless

Ya, I def believe in God...always have, always will:)
And i do need Him in my life.

I'm not one of these slappies that condemns anyone who doesnt tho. Thats your choice.
For ppl who feel they dont need religion in their lives, i def respect that as well, as I do any opinion about anything:D

Wanna try to clear up the church from God thingy.
The overall grand scheme of religions are corrupted, as pretty much everyone assumes.
But, that doesnt mean GOD corrupted them, or intended them to be that way. Cause He def didnt. Thats just the greed of men manifested.

So please dont blame God when you lash out on religions being corporations of manipulation...cause again, thats MAN:mad:

Anger and resentment towards religious institutions is justified, no doubt, but not towards God imo:happy2:

+1 man...I coudn't have said it better myself

Interesting how you say my opinion is illogical. You can disagree with it, but I wouldn't go as far so call it illogical, until you've seen it from my perspective.

Eh, sorry, didn't mean to offend....maybe used the wrong word.:sadgreen:
Misguided more accurately describes what i meant.

I prefer the idea that some form of afterlife exists, as the idea is comforting to me. That, I think was the original purpose of religion, to be a comfort in life and to reassure people that death isn't finite.
Over thousands of years some people have manipulated the desperation of the masses, for their own gains i.e. money and power, and so religion was born.

On the whole I am content in believing that the only afterlife I will be a part of is the cycle of life when my body decays.

The idea of a supreme being aka God doesn't sit well for me though. That would mean that my life was already laid out before I was born, that every action I make is either good or bad, right or wrong, that I am being judged constantly, therefore God offers me no comfort.

I would normally always say that I'm agnostic, but after reading what I just wrote I will vote myself an athiest.

Saying what I believe in is misguided is very offending as well. I could say that because you believe in god you have been misguided for many reasons, but I wouldn't because that isnt respecting your beleifs.

Lol almost everday of your WHOLE life thats happened:
- your parents to at least some extent
- the schools you attended
- the LAW

All have concrete rules that lay out exactly what is right and wrong, and worse,
JUDGE you and punish you, every single day.:clown:

So that would mean they don't offer you any comfort either...

If you said i was misguided in believing in God i wouldnt be offended at all - thats just me:)

Have you read any of my posts??
All i've done is respect your beliefs by not imposing mine on yours.
What i referred to was a comment of yours, not your beliefs.

Don't be offended so easily:D

I see your point, but the judgments of parents, peers, and authorities don't ultimately lead to a decision on how we spend our afterlives. They are humans like me and in that count we are all equal.
I thought we were talking about God here, and my point still stands that I find no comfort from a supreme being who judges me on every action I ever make.
