I have no problem with religion at all, and I do see it's purpose. But I personaly do not need it in my life.

agnostic right now, but leaning more to atheism. however, i don't want to limit myself and completely cross off the idea. the universe is huge and so much is unexplainable, so the possibility exists. i'll wait for conclusive evidence

i didnt know u were on the "leaning to atheism" mindset... aww spiff... you just keep getting better and better to me :D

^^ YES!

(though more and more i find myself "thank the universe" or "universe-willing"... they just sound cooler than "thank god" ... ;) lol

So please dont blame God when you lash out on religions being corporations of manipulation...cause again, thats MAN:mad:

Anger and resentment towards religious institutions is justified, no doubt, but not towards God imo:happy2:

COMPLETELY agree with this. !!!

I prefer the idea that some form of afterlife exists, as the idea is comforting to me. That, I think was the original purpose of religion, to be a comfort in life and to reassure people that death isn't finite.

I agree taht i think alot of ppl "Need" to beleive that a god exists or that there's an after life... they need that comfort. that they wont cease existing for all time once they die..

i dont understand the need for this comfort... that i no longer will ever exist again once i die doesnt bother me at all. thats just the way it is. and ill be dead, so at the time i wont even be able to care about it.

plus, i think some ppl like the idea of god, bc they can attribute hardship in their lives to him... if you're life is complete balls, well they will take solace in the fact that its just the way god wants it to be for them... (or, i guess they could blame it on god too, and take away their own responsibility for their circumstances in life)

To be honest, I don't know about the brain.
I'm not a brain surgeon or neurologist nor have I claimed to be. Never studied it and probably never will.
Thought I would use it to prove a point (to be honest, I thought it was true. Never researched that)... but if it OFFENDS you so much would it be better that I use a different example? Something PROVEN?

Meh, a tactic commonly used by individuals in these types of discussions to 'write off' stuff.
One thing is wrong...therefore all things said are wrong.

haha, I never said anything about the rest of your post - notice how I only quoted the part that I know to be false. In fact, I agree with some of the other points you made, they are valid and well put.

my intend was to merely point out that one of your facts, is anything but, and to save you the trouble of referring to it in the future :happy2:

Thats fair. From your point of view as an atheist I completely understand you.
Its not that i NEED to believe in an afterlife or that it gives me any comfort at all.
Its the unknown. As a Roman Catholic, i DONT KNOW if i'll end up in heaven or hell. I may think i'm doin good on our planet, but maybe its not good enough.
We (Catholics) just DONT KNOW.

BEST analogy imo:
When you're in your mother's womb, all you know is darkness and some strange sounds. Thats all you comprehend more or less.
Then you're born, and theres all this strange light, noise, SO much unknown.

Like i knew i was gonna learn language, that i was gonna be educated, that i was gonna love trance, that i was gonna party,
that i was gonna LOVE beer, travel to 20 countries, know what technology was capable of, and countless more unknown surprises.
Like I, or you, or ANYONE had any idea that any of this was gonna happen, and that our lives were going to be lived the way they were.
We just had no idea.

To me, its the same after i die. I have NO idea whats really gonna happen. Like the unborn baby, I'm completely unaware of the magnitude of whats to come.
I cant even say how I'm going to think or comprehend things, or how I'm gonna react to situations, because NO ONE can give me a detailed account of what exactly is waiting for me.

I'm just in another womb in which nothing is really KNOWN:happy2:

I Am GOD.

Wooohooo people who believe in God are winning.:toothless @ the polls.LOL
Tunnel Rat
Most people believe in a God when they need to/when it is convenient for them. Like when something bad happens and they ask "why me?", or when they want something good to happen "please God, let me ...".

The concept of God is almost a constant coping mechanism/ray of hope that helps people keep moving through life.

I say....what ever floats your boat and gets you through life and into the next - if the case may be - hold onto your beliefs.

I wonder, if a person was never taught about God, and had no idea about what it is, would they still believe in a God?
