Youre kind of an idiot too :\
He was assuming I was making the argument: due to this news story, I am positing the moral declaration that we ought/should dislike an entire region.
This was never stated or implied.
I was doing the exact opposite and saying that there is a rather widespread dislike of that region, and it is due to such events and actions and it gives them a bad name.
ing bunch of world defenders here  |
Didn't you say we should just nuke the whole ME once?
Because thats why I assumed your post meant as such.
And the widespread dislike of that region is because Americans associate it with Osama Ben Laden and terrorists. We don't give a rats ass how , unlawful, un-just, genocidal...(etc..etc) another country is so long as it isn't affecting us.
Most Americans will not see the type of news story you just posted nor have they in the past, nor do they care, because they are more interested in finding out if Paris Hilton will serve time for driving with a suspended liscense. |

not to sound ultra feminist, but men are the cause of the worlds woes. India has shown that 3rd world countries can do amazing things the second they start educating and respecting women. Half the world still oppresses the out of them and its holding them back. |
This is very true. And that is pretty feminist. |

The mid east has been disliked for a lonnnnng time before Osama.
and me saying that we should nuke the middle east previously could have been a little bit of hyperbole on my part. |

Not really. People didnt really start caring and taking notice untill 9/11/01, and the whole Iraq debacle.
We are, afterall, responsible for the current government in Iran, and years back, we pretty much sold weapons to all mid east states so long as they promised not to be communist. |

So because of what 10 guys did, and because of a screwed up supreme court, we should hate the entire middle east? |
It would be fine if these types of incidents happened once or twice a year, but these incidents happen every day sometimes numerous times a day. |

I still dont see how you can take the actions of some and declare hate on an entire region. Thats a great way to alienate the middle class moderates and reformists who are already struggling to push in the other direction. |

Absolutely. Agree 100%. Saudi Arabian Women have been trying to get the right to vote for years. The Taliban in Afghanistan beat women just for looking them in the eye. A woman who was in my World Civilization class was from Afghanistan, and she was beaten with some type of stick for walking in front of a man up the steps.
Like early Christianity, Islam has interpreted to benefit certain individuals, classes, and men. It's up to women to step up and gain their independence. There is a large Muslim Feminism movement in Saudi Arabia, and several southeast Asian countries. |

A Muslim friend once told me that Islam is going through it's middle ages per-say.
He also is of the firm belief that the west should step back and let the Middle-East be the Middle-east, because in his mind, change is on the way and the only way it will happen is if we stop treating the Middle-East like our rebelious teenage daughter that's constantly up to no good. |

I think we should stop bombing people and focus alot more on encouraging social change and offering rewards to those who do. |
