By the same logic, one could argue that we should kill all the Christians, Jews, and Atheists and let the Muslims live in peace. Or kill all the Muslims and Christians and let the Jews live in peace. Or kill all the communists and Democrats and let the libertarians live in peace... wait, where were we going with this?
gen·o·cide Pronunciation[jen-uh-sahyd]
–noun- the deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group. |
Hell, lets just end it all then, obviously we are too ed up to ever all get along. It's not going to happen.
What would the -cide be world destruction? :p |

Can you prove the contrary on that point? I know you are quite knowledgeable when it comes to your religion. I'm truly curious to know what unique contributions (i.e. things that could not be done through another social entity other than organized religion) has religion made recently? |

Its a pretty ridiculous statement when you compare it to secular horrors such as Stalin and Mao and the Godless states they created...
the point is people are people. There are good channels and bad channels for everyones energies.
People tend to get bound to their religion and Im sure that religious charities are solid producers of outgoing aid funds and services.
I rolled my eyes because I get the feeling pkc read dawkins and found his role model and is just spouting it all back like the all enlightened atheists do.
(not saying there arent sanctimonious religious types too but theyre all annoying) |

Lets not forget Hitler and those kooky little buggers called the Nazis.
You know Positive Christianity just sounds so... POSITIVE! :gsmile: |

The problem is that some people seem to have the strange idea that they ought to force people, even to the point of death, to be "morally pure" or to conform to their ideology.
Such people can be religious or irreligious.
If you want to make a society ty, convince everybody in it that "protecting morality" means killing or torturing anybody who "threatens" your own ideas of "purity."
That's the stage much of the Middle East is in now. |

It is the form of Christianity adopted by the Nazis.
You forget that Nazis in the end were Christians and their war resulted in the deaths of 75 million people between 1939 and 1945.
Stalin and Mao had some bad policies (and paranoia) but their death count is nothing near that of what the Nazis caused. |

It's their Spanish Inquisition (You know Orbax, when Christians killed 150,000 people for not following the Catholic church, remember that one?).
Maybe the Muslims are on their Crusade too? |

"Purity" is the ideal you see popping up again and again in awful, murderous societies.
"Racial purity" in Hitler's Germany. "Ideological purity" in Stalinism and Maoism. "Moral purity" in Catholic Europe of the Middle Ages and paternalistic Muslim regimes.
This is no accident. The way to achieve these kinds of "purity" is through intolerance of differences -- differences in physiology, differences in political beliefs, differences in sexual practices -- which is what ultimately leads to all the horrors you read about.
It seems that, for whatever reason, some people simply cannot live with the fact that other people look, act, and believe differently than they do. |

Can you link to the source or give me the title of the book you read that shows the Nazis were Christian?
Also, what denomination of Christianity? Because Nazi Christianity is not a recognized form, I believe.
and if you count silly policies like stalin starving out the breadbasket areas the count jacks up quite a bit.
And, all youre really doing is proving what I said - People are gonna do what theyre gonna do no matter what. |
