Yes I do expect that. Every single club anywhere will overcrowd if given the chance.
I do agree that a phone call to the right person who has their own agenda could change some things, but it will only be temporary. I personally would prefer if they charged a lot more for tickets and limited capacity (because I can afford to pay more) but you only have to look at the Decadence or this event thread and you have a lot of people already complaining about the price. |

Nah.
I think ppl grumble for a few days but aren't proactive enough. I betcha a simple complaint to the paper, for example, would shape up things and then you guys would have even better memories of the night.
Being able to find your friends, move around freely, dance to the vibe, go to the bathroom whenever and to keep your shoes clean, your sanity clear is nothing no amount of pills can change :p |

As someone who had a store right beside The Docks (until Sprackman bought the entire building and doubled our rent) I can tell you that you are correct. What he was able to get done and changed (from getting street parking one year to getting rid of it when he got his own parking lot) doesn't just happen without some political help. It was also quite the intersting cast of people who would be in and out of the club during the week. This is how business is done and it is how business will always be done in any City, not just Toronto. You scratch my nut, I'll scratch yours. |

I thought of that.. I'm sure the Guv could still generate decent numbers with some creative pricing. Tix would prolly go up a bit, but ppl wouldn't balk en masse if it were to increase say, $5. And with less overcrowding, you may even increase drink sales too. Who knows? Ppl bitch about the tickets, yes, yet they consistently pay for a bittersweet night (good music but pushy crowd). |

nothing has more political clout than raising this issue to a wider audience (ie Toronto Star or something). |

Yeah great alert the "authorities" about something that you think is a problem. Do you realize that city hall is just looking for any excuse to SHUT DOWN THE ENTIRE CLUB SCENE?
So go ahead, help them out and put a lot of people out of work and limit your choices in lifestyles.
Some people are really ing retarded... Honest to god..
PS: if you think clubs here are crowded i suggest NEVER going to places like Miami, Ibiza, London or just about anywhere else that has a real club scene.

if this was just an issue of personal comfort i would have to agree with you. being a fire hazard, i would have to disagree.
really, all i want is big ing garage-like doors all through the club, so if there was a fire, there wouldn't be crazy bottle-necking at the door
and the clubs in Ibiza weren't bad, with the exception of Pacha, which is a disaster in the making. |

i wouldnt call it a fire hazard... there are a lot of fire exits at clubs in toronto. Obviously if it were a fire hazard it wouldnt be allowed to happen. Do you know how unbelievably regulated licenced establishments are and how crazy the enforcement is?
Seriously what i read here is A LOT of ignorance and it really makes me angry. Go to the star, go to the mayor because we all know that they always speak the truth and dont over exaggerate for their own causes right?

I've been to London and just because one place kills your vibe and overcrowds means you have to be subjected to the same abuse too? Nice "sheep like" mentality, Mr Tota "Prime Minister" (smirk). And I disagree with the SHUT DOWN THE ENTIRE CLUB SCENE blanket statement, because in actual fact,almost every tourist guide makes reference to TO's nightlife, which, incidentaly, generates much needed revenue for the city.
Believe me, the Guv and TO's police force (if they are implicated in all this, somehow) would deeply want to avoid the worse case scenario big time if that were to happen:

do you think that if someone was on the stairs in the guv main room, and a fire broke out, that they would have a reasonable expectation to get out alive?
on one of the big events that we had to do this one direction thing it took me over 45 mins to get from guv floor to the drink doors. it was so crowded that someone managed to get a feel, and not only could i not see who it was, but i couldn't twist my body enough to get out of the way. i can say without any uncertainty, if there had been a fire that day i would have died from either the fire or being trampled to death in the panic |
