see, that's the thing. Do you really have to expect that? As ticket buyers, you guys have more say than you think. All it takes is a phone call to the right authorities or a letter to the Toronto Star :p

thats a ing great idea!!! let's all send our complaints to the media cause they clearly care about sketchbag safety

lmao sketchbag safety FTW!!!

But i'd just like to say, ive come to expect the overcapacity and pushyness at guv on these major events, and as bad a it was last night for some of you guys, im sure it had nothing on Labour 2005, 45 mins to get from mainroom patio to washrooms!! dont even get me started on how long it took to get to skybar lol but i mean, its a catch 22 really, stay home and dont feel the beat, or feel the beat and deal with the 'bs'. for me the beats always win out :tongue2

lol, sketchbag. It MUST be the disco biscuits responsible for your Guv addiction.. I don't see why you guys are defending an overcrowded amusement park so much. You even have a TA from Fromagetown, USA with 67 posts backing you up :p

spin laden: How can you call the guv an amusement park after all the quality nights it has provided all of us. If you dont like being pushed around like a little btch then dont go there.

WTF are you anyway other than a bottom feeding scumbag who embraces the bin laden name. Go crawl into a corner and die.

When are we going to learn that it is not bigger rooms but in fact squarer rooms.

All rooms changed to squares, who's with me!

"If you dont like being pushed around like a little btch then dont go there." - new Guv motto brought to you by Tyrone.

Points for your avatar, I'll give you that :p. However, a Bin Laden avatar with his head being blown off is embracing the man? One year, 64 posts and all pretty much pointless  :p

If by square room, you really mean a square floor then yes i would agree with you. But if you really mean a square room, i can not agree as a square is only a 2 dimensional shape.

Also if by square you really meant cube, then i would again have to disagree, due to the fact that, if this is a really big cube room then the ceilings would be too high.

In my opinion, the best shape for the room would be a cuboid. Who's with me!?

Dude, you're not really bringing anything into this thread.
Spin did bring up valid points. Granted there were strong undertones of frustration and anger, but it did lead to a good discussion. Your name calling really ain't doing much...

An amusment park...well what would you call it exactly, if not that?

As for the over-crowdedness, its just a staple of the environment. There are always places to be found, albeit fewer and fewer, with less crowd density, even on major nights. Sticking to front-row centre or to the major arteries of the club can get annoying as , but what do you expect really.

And as for sending off letters of complaint to newspapers or other media, I see it doing no good. This city, and its governing bodies literally are getting off right now in anticipation of the next sensationalist story. Complaints of this nature would go nowhere to further our own scene, but would in the long run only detract from it. This is an issue that can be addressed, but it must start with the club owners and organisers realizing there is a problem in the first place. Putting them on a defensive stance against media and city attack probably isn't the best way to make them aware of the issues.

^^^ there you go, more constructive discourse.

too nice outside to continue arguing in circles. I'm out. As bar staff, I would be a bit more sympathetic to ppl's concerns on here, and of course if anyone wants to take overcrowding issues further, keep in mind jobs are at stake too, so don't be too alarmist with your complaints.

Fair enough? :p ;)

What do you guys suggest? Bigger club? Better management? Stay home? I read the rest of the AVB reviews and it sounds like it was a night of good beats mixed with inconveniences. Maybe some of you come to expect that by now.. still room for improvements though, imo.

Import
If you are truely concerned with your safety in the guv complex i suggest you have a good look over the floor plans which are readily available on their website. There are quite alot of fire exits, its not exactly feesabile for thier to make the walls out of soundproofed garage doors and im sure they meet current fire code regulations. As Jayx said, they are always looking for things to get the clubs in trouble for, and im sure this is a topic they revisit rather frequently.

Yes events like LoL often get packed but this is something you generally expect when buying that ticket. Whatever you do dont use the excuse of a fire hazard if its in the attempt to get a more open dancefloor, because that wont help the situation. If anything you could expect less clubs is the media/major ect, get a good following from the general public.
Spin Laden
The reason why clubs are always on a hit list is because rules are always being bent by greedy staff and ownership. Also, clubs can be a gateway to drunk driving, violence, drug dealing, etc. That's why you always see cops doing the beat after clubs close. But the city also recognizes that most ppl who go to clubs are responsible adults and that it generates revenue for the city (ie tourism, parking, taxes on liquor, rent, etc).

Yes, no one wants to see their favourite club shut down, especially edm ones that are so few and far between, but that doesn't mean as ticket buyer you have to put up with shoving, overcrowding places. We have a club here that sold out Benassi twice in one week, and AVB as well, and the bouncers would not take bribes (which also leads to overcrowding) on strict orders from management. There was plenty of room for patrons to move around.

I have a hard time believing that the Guv does not exceed fire regulations, in any case.
