From the DJ's perspective, it's awesome being up above the room, getting a birds eye view of what's going on. Alternatively, you aren't where the vibe is and feel like you are off in another world sometimes.

Honestly, hardly any DJs liked it being way up there.
Forget the birds eye view, its ALL about being part of the crowd and the VIBE.

From the crowd perspective, it's bad because you can barely see the DJ or anything that he is doing.

This is why is sucked

On the other side, it's kind of cool because it adds a certain mystique to the DJ.

Respectfully disagree....i dont need mystique from a DJ... I want a in good party

Since it's pretty much guaranteed that it's being moved, I think it'd be awesome if they put it right in the middle of the dance floor (like that club in LA that was turned into a TV show).

I think you're talking about Ice in Vegas, which was part of the show "The Club"

Altho that idea is a pretty good one,
I always thought that EASLIY the best spot was the stage area.
Every party at the Guv where the booth was at the stage just ROCKED cause of the DJ/crowd interraction:D

I liked having the DJ away from the crowd.....let me enjoy the music...I don't need the DJ right down infront of me so everyone crowds around hoping the DJ will touch their naughty places.

I could care less if I even see the DJ during the night.

Why do you find it weird....trance is loosing popularity and house and techno are going through the roof.

I've said it before Trance is like EDM for Dummies....its a good way to get into the music but then you realize there is so much more out there. Toronto is soooo far behind the scene that the light from the scene will take a thousand years to reach Toronto.

Come on, dont be so ignorant!

I started off with Trance, yes! And now i do love house...some of the best bangin parties were house music.

However, I still LOVE trance, and would like the choice. And almost 80% of the time I would pick a trance party. Trance moves me in ways that house or techno never have.

I think Toronto has a wikkid scene, the local talent here is incredible, and we get completely SPOILED with the amount of great international talent that stop in on a regular basis....I'll take Toronto over many many other cities glady :tongue2

TOTALLY AGREE!

C'mon! We have Guvernment, The Docks, Footwork, Soon-To-Be Circa, Comfort Zone, Cherry Beach, TIL, Film, etc... And look at what Guv's doing. Their renovations could potentially put them back at the top of DJ Mags Club List.

So many venues along with great DJs. Who gives a if they're not bigger outside of the GTA. I'll take 'em over any international DJ you want to throw at me.

New York City doesn't even have a scene like Toronto... Miami wouldn't have a scene if it wasn't for places like Space and WMC...

I would argue that Toronto has one of the top three scenes in North America. Hands down!

we're lucky to have so many djs come every week and to have a venue high ranking in the world is even more of a bonus. the level of our local talent is also extremely high. imo, what makes them different from the 'world class' djs is production. if our guys started pumping out their own tracks (not saying they havent but other than remixes, have their own productions) they too would be on the similar level.

I never said that you can't still love Trance but Trance is what gets people into listening to EDM.

Toronto has a great scene...but it's behind the times...Europe is light years ahead of North America when it comes to the development and progression of the EDM scene.

Well, only scene making a progression is house and it's fixed to a certain type of sound for most part.

I'm surprised by the Guv's bookings during Decadence and Freedom looks pretty interesting in terms of Djs too... But I wonder how many people will go just because it's not the typical Guv bookings. (giving DnB the KH takes some balls IMO)
