lol @ trancecrackers.

Minimal has been around since the beginning of the 1990's...and it will continue after the sudden hype.

Dont forget that minimalism is an art form, not a genre.

All music is an artform.

What's that got to do with anything?

People on this forum seem obsessed with genres. i don't like the term minimal myself, it does seem to be a trendy thing for labelling most music that comes from germany these days.

It happened with prog not so long ago - everyone was right into the prog sound, now not so much. Doesn't mean the sound has died, it just doesn't gain as much coverage.

The whole minimal bandwagon will soon die off and all those people who wear sunglasses in clubs and paint their faces will find something else to latch on to. Minimal techno/house/trance/country will always be around and you'll probably find that once the popularity of it declines, the quality of release will be brought back..

Demoted
I'm waiting for "electro" minimal.

Imagine that with buzzy fart basslines! Oorah!

I agree. Minimal belongs more in lounges or warm up sets but it doesn't rock a dancefloor like trance, progressive house, tribal house, or techno (or even electro-house, even though I hate it). Really because minimal implies that there isn't much to the tracks, they are more or less repetitive beats, noises and melodic fragment that seems to go nowhere except on and on and on and on, where's the fun in that? I think a "minimal" amount of "minimal" is fine but when you have guys playing a lot of it mixed with electro-house, I just want to scream....eh hmmm...John Digweed..Sasha.....

You are wrong. So so wrong.

why such emphasis on genres? i know they are important but cant we just enjoy edm as a whole??

In most people's eyes, technically trance was a fad too, that they listened to about 6-7 years ago but don't anymore.
