EDC Reviews ??? (pg. 7)

The ugly:

  • What was up with the bars????? Earlier in the evening, they had 3-4 people behind each of the four bars in the coliseum. No hard drinks were served anywhere else (except VIP, I guess). Later after it got dark and 10 times as many people are there, half of the bartenders went home...so waited in line (mosh pit, actually) over 30 minutes for drinks but fortunately I came out of it alive!
  • Above & Beyond couldn't play a double encore even though the crowd was screaming "one more!" Strict LA curfew, as Tony announced on the mic. We must vote TA's into the city council!
  • Got to my friends car a few minutes after 4 to discover that the lights had been left on and the battery was dead. Waited over an hour for AAA, so for anyone who wants to know what happens after the party's over: First the drug dealers come by asking if you need any more pills, then the police drive around screaming "party's over...go home!" into their megaphone, getting more aggressive with each passing minute. I was never so glad to see a tow truck!

The bad:

  • Crowd pushier than normal, especially front center, some girl behind me jamming her head into people's backs like a woodpecker
  • So crowded up front you could have sex with someone and not even know it, which is very dangerous at an all-ages event!
  • No lockers or coat check to hold any stuff bought from the vendor booths...just gotta carry it around all night or risk it being sold out at the end

The good:

  • Never had to wait at all for the restrooms, and you could actually wash your hands!
  • Lots of room to move around
  • The lighting and visuals were absolutely phenomenal!
  • So many amazingly good tracks, my favorite was the last one that Hernan played, thought I was going to have to jump the fence to find out what it was, but a TA saved me!
  • Seeing people of all ages, races, colors, and orientations going insane over quality Trance music (which I've heard for the last 5 years is dying...lol...the cheesy stuff dies a quick death, quality tracks will be around forever!)
  • To the girl who pointed at my ear and said "You don't like the music?," take two and call me in the morning, ey? :)

Oh yeah, PICS now up! They're dedicated to Sarah, since she couldn't make it...see you again soon though! :)

I met up with a friend @ EDC and we saw Oakenfold first who played a couple of good tunes, including Nu NRG - Freefall (Which is the 2nd time that I've heard this tune at a massive and loooved it) but whenever he trainwrecked, it just messed up the groove that I was into when dancing.. which was pathetic! I even shouted "you suck!" just for kicks cause I was getting mad.

Then I managed to see J00F! for half an hour and damn he was good and hot :D... Then I was fortunate enough to be close to the front in the center when Infected Mushroom came on.. (who I kinda was iffy to see because i've never really heard any of their sets before, but my friend told me that they were good live) and to tell you the truth, they were semi-awesome, lol, but the fact that sweaty, shirtless guys were everywhere and being humped in the ass by this mexican guy :wtf: kinda freaked me out a bit so i skipped out after half an hour of jumping around to Infected and went to the Insomniac booth to see Above & Beyond and got some slipmats signed and took pictures with them :happy2: especially a single one with Jono :tongue2

After saying Hi to both the guys I got back with my friend to see them perform, but we ended up sitting on the bleachers through their set and most of the time we either raised our hands when a good song came up and danced in our seats and went crazy! I especially liked all of the classics that they played, 'No One On Earth' 'Satellite' and 'Alone Tonight' which really made the night for me!

So after over a year of not going out to a massive, I have to say that I'm pretty much pumped to go to another one after this, but hell, I hate it when people are in' getting high on some right in front of you and not dancing to the music...pisses me right off..

Anyhow I pretty much had a fun night overall just dancing around senselessly lol. I have to do it again!

Arrival:

We left Anaheim around 2:30PM got to the Expo Coliseum around 3:00PM (Quick Drive Almost No traffic a lil at the 605 N but oh well). We found perfect parking and started to make our way to the entrance to get our Ticket master Tickets. very easy no wait to get our tickets. Got to the entrance and waited till 4:30PM, because they didn’t start letting people in till 5:12PM, the Ravers kids started to get really pissed. I was glad i wasn’t in that crowd :P . We started going in and got searched and stuff just checked in and walked over to the Above & Beyond shop to say what’s up to John and Linda they were working the Tent. a lot of goodies :)... We started making our way to the "TA MEETUP" at the circuitGROUNDS: Stage, we didn’t find any TA's but we did find Ruke and chilled with him for a bit.

First DJ: Nicholas Bennison

Nicholas was definitely a great DJ a lot of good uplifting trance a lot of energy behind his set! I couldn’t stop dancing it was way fun! That System they had in the circuitGROUNDS was AMAZING!!! A lot of amps and huge subs and it was just awesome you can feel every kick and bass. A lot of people where diggin the set it was nice. he plays a lil breakdown electro track it was sick in that sound system and he also played this breakbeat breakdown in the middle of the song which was also tight. Overall a good way to start out the night (8 out of 10)

Second DJ: DJ Heather

DJ HEATHER!!! Was insane! she always delivers I was kinda pissed she came on 30 mins late cuz of Groove Junkies :( but oh well when she got up on stage it and killed it she plays some crazy bassy music! a lot of chicago style type of house she never disappoints me. She keeps on getting better and better every time I see her (10 out of 10)

Third DJ: Desyn Masiello

We left DJ Heather's set a 1 hour prior to its end to check out Desyin Masiello. Now... i didn’t know much about this DJ the only stuff i knew was from the few set's you TA's have posted. and everybody seems to love him when he comes to LA and its the talk of the town. so i decided to see what he spun. We get there and hes already getting the crowd pumped up with some great progressive house. The mixing was great! very solid DJ. Overall i realy like this tracks but i think it was too progressive for me to enjoy! i kinda wished i was back at DJ Heather's stage :)...oh well it was an exp so it was fun i would deff see him again if he came to other raves. (6 out of 10)

Fourth DJ: Paul Okenfold

So......for this one... LOL...i didn’t really care to see Paul up but Bobby wanted to go check it out. so we decided to walk all the way to the middle of the coliseum to catch a lil bit of Paul Okenfold. We get there and he goes on. Now let me tell you this he ED up every single transition that he did ( and yes me and bobby counted) but his Track selection was amazing. I was jamming to every track he played but i laughed when he ed up I had a good time lol ( 7 out of 10)

Fifth DJ: Deep Dish

We only saw a lil bit of Deep Dish but I wasn’t really diggin the set for some reason i thought it was ummm boring? lol oh well maybe next time :). We left that stage around 12. not there best performance so (5 out of 10)

Bleacher Break:

So we took a break during Deep Dish and decide just to chill out up in the stands and re -fuel (Miller Light eww). By this time it was 12:45PM, Me and bobby decided to get some more beers and to head over to the above & beyond Shop. I saw mikelord so we chilled there for a lil bit and waited for above & beyond to get to the shop so we can take a few pictures. That was definitely nice.

Sixth DJ: Above & Beyond

Wow got to the main stage at the coliseum rushed all the way to the very front! I had to jump over people and step on kids just to get there but it was way worth it. Soo many good tracks! I was blown away by how good these guys are! great track selection! it was soo damn good it made me forget how tired i was i just kept on dancing and having a great time! (10 out of 10)

Departure:

Leaving the arena wasn’t really that bad! Especially with 40k people leaving, we got to the parking lot and on the freeway in 10 mins it was nice :) my feet are still hurting. Overall it was a huge success I didn’t mind the ed up ravers that much. It was actually funny. I will be there again next year
