true but I think the original storyline of two factions of robots fighting a civil war that drained their planet of energy so that the near-defeated side (autobots) go in search of new sources and end up on earth, etc, is much less silly than the "allspark".
Plus, given contemporary issues, maybe the fact that the Decepticons wanted to rape our planet of all its resources might hit home with more people? There was potential there for it to be a little more intelligent but again, it's all about money... |
so you'd rather prefer a remake of an original story rather then the story of a lost "cube"? fair enough, but I think something like that would only interest fans of original cartoons, where is this adaptation opened a door for a wider audience (i.e. me, I think I vaguely remember seeing 1 episode of the original cartoons) |

yes, as a fan of the cartoon I think the original storyline would have come off better and people would have bought it just the same. In the cartoon, the decepitcons came to rape Earth of its plentiful energy sources but for obvious reasons, they rarely ever killed humans. This could have been amped up for the movie, having the Decepticons hell bent on raping Earth and killin everyone, the Autobots come to Earth's defence, etc.
The screenwriters essentially dumbed down an already BASIC story arc. Give me a year or so and I honestly think I could have written a better script but as I"ve said before, blockbusters these days are not not made to tell a good story. That ended a long time ago. |

about the change in story....
original storyline goes that the war is goin on back at cybertron and the autobots leave cybertron to replenish fading resources and get tailed by the decepticons...the decepticons then board the arc (autobot ship) and computer goes boom boom and they crash on earth only to be discovered millions of years later...during the first ep, megatron only aims to build his ship and get the hell outta there but realizes theres way too much fuel to be tapped and convereted to energon cubes....decepticons are obviously way smarter than the autobots.. in the end of the initial ministory, mirage brings down the decepticon ship by boarding it during take off and unfortunately the decepticons are stuck back on earth...
what i DO like about the new storyline is that the cube (allspark) is a mysterious source of life and gives somewhat of a better explanation (even tho its fictional) to each robot actually having a personality (or soul). and yes megatron reached thousands of years before the autobots again...always one step ahead....damn megatron |

meh i dont care about "could've been better this way or that way, no cube or cube, killing humans or not killing humans"
i enjoyed the whole movie thoroughly, thought there was a bit too much drama, the comedy was good and spaced out
one of the best movies i've seen in a while and thats that |

ppl who claim it sucked went in with way too high expectations for an action movie based on a cartoons story
|
My expectations weren't that high actually. I'm pretty sure though, that if someone else had directed it (eg. Spielberg) then this movie would've been 100 times better and way more epic than what Bay made it out to be: a cookie cutter pop corn flick. |

+1
Not gonna say that i didn't enjoy it... but the fact is Michael Bay is a director that can make look cool, but as far as story lines, character development, making it epic- he is useless.
Michael Bay can only make movies with HUUUUUGE budgets, cuz then he can use a load of SFX. With a low budget this man wouldn't be able to do jack . |

I dunno about that. I thought Bad Boys 1 and The Rock were kickass action movies, and those were his first 2 movies so the budgets were really small. Armageddon was pretty good too.
Now he gets paid 20 million to direct movies and they all suck. With no-name actors. |

also - I don't think this movie is claiming to be anything more then action movie adapted from the original cartoons, i.e. it is not claiming to have an immensely interesting story line, or amazing character play.. |
No one says it's claiming to do it, but I still do not understand why with a budget as huge as that, they couldn't spend a little more time on something that is essentially very cheap - the script. I don't think it's that much to expect of a movie. And personally, I think this is the reason why so many movies just plain out BLOW nowadays, because people stopped caring about everything but the "wow cool" factor in movies. This shouldn't be. To me, it'd look just as retarded if Porsche dumped a load of money to develop a new supercar only to have the customers who bought it go, "umm why is this using the gearbox of a moped?" |

Michael Bay doesn't do scripts. |

| For what it was, I liked it. Hell, it was a -load better than the piece of let-down crap that was Ninja Turtles. Is it wrong that I felt sexually attracted to Shia LeBoeuf? |
