I have no hometown, I've been moving from one place to the next my whole life and I haven't stopped having a blast and living a madness life since I can remember.
Go.
RUN!
i agree with you. in october 2003 i went to mexico for a two week vacation and ended up staying a year and a half! but to do it mostly or only for the money when someone wouldn't normally go to place, i do not recommend.

Very true matey.
I've lived in Scotland all my life and I'm now 24. I've got my degree, work experience and I'm ready to do some travelling.
I haven't got a mortgage to pay, kids to feed, just me on my lonesome which makes me the perfect candidate to go and enjoy myself elsewhere in the world. It'll be something I'll look back on when I'm old and wrinkly, and be glad I did it when I was young and free of responsibilities.

The thing is most people have no concept of the rest of the world, so I think it would be better to go somewhere random for some cash... in fact thats the best reason! See another place AND get paid well...
win win?

I recall hearing something about if you live more than 6months overseas, you don't have to pay taxes or smth.. not sure. here are some links in case you need them, tho:
Hmmm according to that site, income up to a decent amount is excluded from taxation but everything after that amount is taxed at the highest bracket. I might be able to live with that. It certainly beats getting everything taxed.

Occrider, regardless of the pros and cons of Bahrain itself, what are your current alternatives career-wise? How are things developing at your NYC job, what are your long-term goals and in how far can they be better achieved by going to Bahrain? Instead of merely claculating the financial benefit you'd gain each month compared to back home, I'd emphasize on the long-term strategy and ask myself how those 2 years aboroad would grant me the experience, the networks and the added value to the CV opening whole new job(life-standard opprutunities after the return. As some have pointed out, 2 years of sacrifice (and that is the highly unlikely worst case scenario) are basically nothing - and being 30 today is not what it used to be 40 years ago, you've still got pkenty of time for everything you desire. Moreover they'll probably pass by faster than you wish, with all the travelling and the first months of exploring a new city and culture. I wish I had the luxury of pondering about such decisions, congrats!
Yea there's always opportunities in my field. Ultimately my goal is to end up in London or Australia. In order to do so I'd probably have to have a company sponsor me which is quite expensive usually and a hassle. I don't think that I'm at a level of seniority to do that. The good thing about this opportunity is that I'll probably travel to branch banks in Australia, London, Italy, and S. America, so that'll help me get some exposure in other parts of the world. I think I'm going to do it. I just have to iron out a few details. I'll post a followup if everything sails through.

hmm my dad said it wasn't so bad there. he said there's a lot of UK influence from how things were in the 60's? anyway, lots of pubs and stuff. also cool duty free shopping. hot as hell.
it was a paradise for him though because that's where he'd go to get away when he was in saudi arabia. lol so i would imagine ANYwhere was cooler than where he was.
hope that helped:p

I appreciate the confidence. However, I don't think I'll be able to retain my standard cynical douchebaggery. General "kindness" will have to trump "bitter cynicism". The inhumanity!
naah.. that's what TA is for! dump all your cynicism here!
