'Ghetto Dude'.... overreaction by the media? (pg. 9)

That article about facebook pissed me off.... how everyone is harassing this girl because she said 'ghetto dude'
just another example where the black community is playing the race card in an attempt to gain more sympathy from canadian citizens.... they are all acting like 'aileen sue' did this terrible thing to blacks as a whole and now she has to suffer...
I dont know about you guys but I have been harassed by black people for being white, just like stupid comments like 'hey white boy bla bla bla...' but i have never done this to a black person.....
the funny thing is they can say the most brutal to me and if i told someone, no one would care.... but if i were to say something racial back to these guys, they could go to the media or whoever and turn me into this huge racist criminal
You never hear about black people racially harassing whites.... but you sure do hear of it every time anyone (an asian girl in this case) says anything moderately racist to black people
the worst part is that its basically blacks on one side, and all other races on the other side....
They can say whatever they want about anyone and it doesnt matter, but if any other race says something to blacks then its a huge deal
like i mention before.... if the job applicant was asian, and was referred to in a slgihtly derogatory way, theres no way we would hear about it, and if we did, its not like there would be this huge backlash from the asian community |

No kidding..
Ive suffered many humiliating statements about my ethnicity at the hands of blacks, asians you name it. Yet its ok for them to do it because im white. On the same token, I dont dwell on it or make it my lifelong ambition to make money from it. Why? Because as much as it sucks to be in that position, it is their problem, not mine.
If someone doesnt hire me, want to be my friend, etc etc because of my race, then i probably dont want to be associated with them anyways. So to those people i say thanks for being upfront about your shortcomings and saving me a lot of wasted time. |

I'm not trying to shove it down anyones throat at all. The media reaction to it was most likely sensationalized due to the fact that it came from the government. However, it shows a real lack of empathy that people cannot grasp that someone might find it offensive and deragotry to learn that he is being referred to as "ghetto dude" internally by potential employers. The point is it doesn't matter if you find it derogatory, but whether the person it was directed to found it derogatory or offensive. And lets be honest, calling someone ghetto is not some random word without any meaning or conotation. If it has no meaning or connotatio to you, that's fine, it's simply a matter of perception. But it has meaning to someone else. |

| It was a typo, it was supposed to say "ghetto, dude". |

| ...and I think it's safe to assume that a young black student who was following up on an interview for a position with the provincial government, would be offended that he is known by his potential employer as "ghetto dude". |

yeah the reason why this story is so big is because it came from the government...
my friend told me that when you apply for government jobs, on the application they have boxes to check such as ethnic minority, homosexual, etc. which gives you a better chance of getting hired
same thing with law school, if you are gay, or a minority, you have a better chance of getting in....
I believe in giving someone a better chance if say they come from a low income family..... say some really rich minority goes to private school, goes to a good university.... why should he have a better chance of getting a job than anyone else?
sorta like my friend in high school, she was half black, she was rich, but got a $3500 african canadian scholarship..... like give someone a scholarship if they need the money, no just because of the color of their skin.... because that is racist! |

This guy didn't want a "better chance", I'm pretty sure he wanted to be given "a chance" and didn't feel he was being afforded one because he was a "ghetto dude" to his potential employer. |
