Now that cars run much cleaner, on cleaner unleaded fuel and with the shift towards bio/hydrogen/hybrid fuel systems and increased safety equipment and design available to the automotive sector, the time is nigh to
re-instate the 120km/h limit.

Or, just mandate setting the governor on all new cars at 120km/h instead of 170/190/210...etc.

Oh right...we make too much money on speeding tickets to do that.

Won't anyone think of the children??

I'll put my points in bullets so its easier to read.

-license to drive is being given out too easily.
-speeding is only dangerous when the driver is not in control.
-there are too many cars in general that are dangerous just by being on the road. IE: shocks are blown, exhausts are hanging, duct tape holding a door on, bumpers smashed and look like they are going to fall.
speeding is not what kills. its reckless driving and people who are not in control of their car.

I'm sure if it was your family or friends who were killed by some douchebag you would feel very differently. 40 may not sound like a lot, but they are completely senseless and completely avoidalbe.

One of my family members was indeed killed by a street racer about five years go. happens, life goes on. This is not a big enough issue to be spending so much time on it imo.

As said before, if they really want to prevent the problem of street racing, they need to open a drag strip near the GTA core. Give people a safe environment to enjoy an unsafe activity, and it will cut down on the number of innocent people hurt.

I'm sorry to hear that.

That being said, I'm suprised and, frankly, disappointed by your position.

Nip racing in the bud, so to speak.

negative, this was me driving down to toronto on sunday morning.. was on a time constraint driving from london to toronto. But I was responsible about it. Only hitting that speed when the left lane was clear and little chance of sudden lane changes from the other lanes.

To add to this thread, I believe that street racing should be punished severely. As stated earlier, racing on suburban/city streets should be penalized more so than on the highway. I also agree with raising the speed limit on the highway. There was a study made a few years ago showing that if the speed limit was raised 20 km/h, it would actually reduce the number of collisions because those who have a need for speed will stick to the fast lane and those who are uncomfortable travelling that fast will have their own lanes.

SOMEWHAT AGREE WITH THAT, speeding when no one is around you for at least 500 m and your ride is in good shape, than you kinda speed at your own risk (i.e if one the front tires pops at 140 you're ed pretty good if not dead)

I live right by a elementary school and I see a lot of idiots doing 50-60 over.... everybody who does that should be lined to a wall and shot:

if it's safe to step on it on the highway and the weather permits, why not? I mean...the 400 series, people do 120 in the first lane, hence you gotta go with the flow...

but people who nearly shave rear bumpers when they change lanes and weave all over the road like they think they're nascar drivers, yes, those should not drive...
