SOMEWHAT AGREE WITH THAT, speeding when no one is around you for at least 500 m and your ride is in good shape, than you kinda speed at your own risk (i.e if one the front tires pops at 140 you're ed pretty good if not dead)
I live right by a elementary school and I see a lot of idiots doing 50-60 over.... everybody who does that should be lined to a wall and shot:
if it's safe to step on it on the highway and the weather permits, why not? I mean...the 400 series, people do 120 in the first lane, hence you gotta go with the flow...
but people who nearly shave rear bumpers when they change lanes and weave all over the road like they think they're nascar drivers, yes, those should not drive... |
sorry. should say on the highway. i hate it when people speed or fly around corners on residential streets. i sometimes feel like throwing a dummy on my street infront of a car to show how easily some of the idiots can hit someone.
smooth driving = safe driving. |

I am also personally touched by this issue. I was charged w dangerous driving many years ago and I was lucky that at that time this issue wasn't in the public's eye otherwise I wouldn't have been let off so easy.
Luckily in my case, no one was injured (except for my gf's and my bruises and her sprained ankle, plus neck pains from whiplash (car was written off). I was pretty stupid then and I think the criminal charge of dangerous driving should be used more often bc I have not raced anyone since then, even though my cars have gotten faster.
I still like to drive fast, and sometimes in case of emergency I will weave, but never race, never again.
Only 2 speeding tickets in the past 6 yrs would attest to that!
My only criticism is the people who hug the left lane and those who cut u off when ur abt to overtake them. A few ppl here have seen the road rage get to me while in the car w me and I'm still working on that! :p Having the top down w classical music playing certainly helps! :p |

also the people who speed up when you try to pass them or the people who slam on the brakes for no reason when your behind them because they think your too close. happened to me once. the guy almost made me collide with him.

I've had this topic come up every time there is a accident on one my car forums.... Media has made anyone driving a modified car a street racer. The amounts of deaths per year from street racing compared to drunk driving (where someone has died) is a lot higher. There is no point creating a new law when we have laws already in place that enforce reckless driving. If the police would enforce the laws already in place then we wouldn't need to create these BS ones.
As for crushing someone's car I see no point. Was it the car that broke the law? No it was the driver. If that drive had enough money they would build another car and do it all over again...

speeding is not what kills. its reckless driving and people who are not in control of their car. |

Leave street racing and excessive speeding aka population control be.
But yeah I agree that it isn't speeding that kills people, it's idiotic driving that does.
For example, going 70 on the highway with everyone else going 110-130.
Or not checking blindspots, slamming on your brakes even though you're 10ft from the line when the light turns yellow.
OR zipping around residential streets.
Going 50 over on the highway is nothing, most people are doing 130-145 anyway. You're more of a threat if you're doing 100 while everyone else is doing 140. |

Anyone actually caught RACING THEIR CARS on any road should be severely punished, no questions asked. They are tards and don't deserve to drive, PERIOD.
But nailing speeders on the 401 with these hefty penalties might be a tad bit excessive. 100kmph on the 401 is a bit dated in my opinion and could be raised to 110 or 120. I'll admit that i've routinely done the 140-150kmph on the 401 when the roads are clear but that doesn't make it legal. It all depends on my mood really...sometimes I don't mind getting somehwere 5 or 10 minutes slower than if I drove like a crazy man.
Anyone caught doing 50 over the limit within a city or town should definitely be charged with racing and severely punished as well. |

Agreed.

There is no reason to drive that fast (unless you've been trained and your vehicle is equipped - and less than 1% of the population can say that). |

I know and you're right. I forgot to say that I only do that speed on certain stretches of the 401 and usually later in the day when there is less traffic. I am not one of those crazy idiots in the GTA who weave in and out on the Gardener in parking lot traffic at 140kmph. I'm mainly driving from KW to London and back all the time, with the occasional trip to TO or Ottawa. I'm a good driver with a perfect record (no tickets, no accidents). I passed every graduated licensing test the first time and handily. I was trained on many vehicles for my job as I went through university. I"m a better driver than most people on the road, but I still know that when I'm driving over the speed limit, I'm breaking the law and could get punished. |
